Got to catch the Aliens Anniversary Panel at Comicpalooza last year, and Bill Paxton was hands down the star of that show. Hilarious and engaging with his story of how pretty much everyone auditioned for Hicks. Always enjoyed his performances, very sad that he's gone.

Nice thoughts from Charles de Lauzirika from Facebook.
I crossed paths with Bill Paxton a couple times over the years, with our most memorable encounter being the day I interviewed him for my documentary SUPERIOR FIREPOWER: MAKING ALIENS, which was followed by a roundtable cast commentary with Michael Biehn, Jenette Goldstein and Lance Henriksen. What I immediately noticed was his fierce protection of the other actors and an enormous sense of pride in their work as a tightly-knit ensemble. As the commentary got a little loose and boozy, he always tried to keep things respectful, only occasionally dipping into the more jocular tone of the others. Basically, on this day, he was the straight man. The exact opposite of his famously quotable character, Hudson. Even afterwards, he pulled me aside to make sure that I wouldn't embarrass anyone by including some of the more off-color commentary recorded that day. I was a little concerned that he was going to be just as formal during our on-camera interview, but fortunately, once he realized we were all there to do good work, he loosened up and shared some truly entertaining and detailed memories with me about not only his time on ALIENS, and working multiple times with Jim Cameron, but also before that, during his lean years as a struggling, hard-working filmmaker and actor.
When you look at his body of work, the range is pretty staggering. He made the no-budget music video for Barnes & Barnes' FISH HEADS, which was a staple for me as a kid, growing up during the era of Dr. Demento...but then he also appeared in the massive big budget box office phenomenon, TITANIC. And there's so much to enjoy between those two ridiculous extremes: ONE FALSE MOVE, A SIMPLE PLAN, FRAILTY, WEIRD SCIENCE, THE TERMINATOR, STREETS OF FIRE, NEAR DARK, PASS THE AMMO, TOMBSTONE and my most recent favorite of his, the highly underrated and terrific EDGE OF TOMORROW...just to name a few. There's so much more.
It really became clear to me last year that I'm of an age when so many pop culture icons and personalities I grew up with are going to start leaving us. But at the young age of 61, Bill Paxton has left us far too soon. Whether as the fool or the hero, the actor or the director, he had so much more good, fun, crazy, edgy, serious work to do.

Jesus, this is weird. When I got up this morning, as my hazy mind was coming together, I stood staring at my VHS collection, and for some reason, the copy of Near Dark lying on the top pile caught my eye. I never really noticed Bill Paxton on the cover there, I thought, He looks so young, like in his twenties.
An hour later I log onto Facebook and see a bunch of postings announcing his death. Is it just a weird coincidence I randomly reflected on him this morning, or is it there were just so many people thinking about him that the universe briefly forced him to the front of my mind?

RIP. He was the last person I thought would die this year and he seemed like he was in good health.
Almost every movie he did ending up becoming a blockbuster.
One of the most poignant scenes he ever did was in Million Dollar Arm where he told the Jon Hamm character it was a mistake letting the kids throw pitches live on ESPN before they were ready.

Holy crap, what a lousy thing to find out first thing after getting home after a day of John Wick 2, lunch at Fuddruckers, and a little shopping.
I can't believe it. Even at 61 he still seemed young and vital. This sucks so much. I LOVE Bill Paxton. He's one of my all time favorites. The list of great movies he was in and great performances he gave is too long to post here, but suffice it to say he had one hell of a career and left a serious mark in movie and TV history.
He will be unbelievably missed. He had so much more left to do, so many more great performances to give. We're all going to miss out over the next decade or so on those performances that we'll never get to see...

Does anyone else get him confused with Bill Pullman? They are about the same age, look sonewhat similiar, and had similiar careers. When I first heard the news I had to think if he was the actor from Independence day and While You Were Sleeping or the one from Twister.

Aside from Training Day, looks like he has 1 more movie left in the can

It's called "The Circle" and comes out April 28th.

The fight over videogame violence in 'Grand Theft Auto' will be depicted by Daniel Radcliffe as Sam Houser, the real-life creator of the blockbuster franchise, and Bill Paxton as Jack Thompson, the lawyer who claimed the game inspired his clients to real violence. Owen Harris directs from James Wood's adaptation of the David Kushner book 'Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto'.
Edit: Apparently this has been sitting on shelves, a trailer debuted in the UK back in 2015.

I guess we will never know why he chose/needed to have this procedure. Whether it was mandatory to fix an issue or elective. Only his doctor and family would know.
But according to the above link, he told Doug Liman that he was nervous about it.
I can only judge what I've seen so far in Training Day, but he didn't look tired or sick. He looks really good for a man in his 60's.
