I've never seen the film but have read online more than once that it's pretty much a adaptation of Jack Kirby's Fourth World/New Gods. Is this true?

Really dislike this movie, was a kid when this was released and having it take place on Earth was horrible. I watched the cartoon and had the toys and it all took place in Eternia so having it on Earth was a major turnoff and couldn't get past it.

It's a fun guilty pleasure movie for what it is but it doesn't feel anything like the characters we know. I was a fan of the cartoon series and toys as a kid but never saw the film until later. I think as a kid I'd have been more disappointed but taken on its own it's not bad, just really cheesy. Definitely would like to see a better He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie at some point. Hopefully the one Sony is planning pans out.
