According to Rolling Stone, he was the worst cast member ever :

Maybe the worst notable cast. There have been many to come and go. Though the 80s episodes never made it to syndication. So I never really saw more than a few.

I love some different snl eras. Still a fan. I think those 80s episodes are considered the low point.

I figured Rolling Stone picked him for the bottom spot out of kindness for the second worst cast member. Downey has a great career and can handle it, and the second worst can console themselves with, "At least I wasn't dead last."

More like "I'm better than Iron Man."

They were syndicated on E! And Comedy Central.

They could have picked Danitra Vance. Being dead last would not matter to her.

I think The Muppets and Jim Breuer could both handle it.

Not to veer too much off topic, but the Chase/Akroyd/Belushi/Candy SNL/SCTV generation produced probably the best era of comedies that still hold up today:

Animal House, Caddyshack, Vacation, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Planes Trains & Automobiles, etc.

I kind of remember them being on (back when I watched a lot of TV). But 99% was the Sandler/Farley years up through Tina Fey leaving (I'm guessing when 30 Rock started). I consider those two eras for SNL. And they were played non-stop on E! and Comedy Central for a long time (maybe they still are?). I mostly dumped cable back in 2009. So I don't keep up anymore.

Damn right. I posted somewhere recently about why I loved Christmas Vacation after seeing it for the first time last month. There is no equal right now (in film ... TV and Netflix has some great comedy).

Chase. I remember still liking Aykroyd as late as Grosse Pointe Blank.

Another question: which of the two had the better romantic leading lady?

Chase did love scenes with an in-their-prime Goldie Hawn and Beverly D'Angelo.

Aykroyd got an in-her-prime Jamie Lee Curtis 3X

Chase got to feel up Donna Dixon (Akroyd's real life wife) in Spies Like Us. Remember Chase played a doctor in one scene, and said he lost all feeling in his hand as he held onto her boob.

Chase wins that one easily for me. I never really understood the appeal of JLC.

I find it odd that other than the OP, Blues Brothers has been completely ignored.

Although Aykroyd wins in real life since he married Donna Dixon.

2 things: RDJ being on SNL counts as a technicality at best, and even though Downey's box office receipts trump Murray's x 10, Bill's filmography is in another league when it comes to classic films that people are going to remember way down the road.

Never get the appeal of Belushi at all mainly cause as I grew up I saw Farley first, when I went back and saw stuff he did he just comes off as what if Chris Farley was a huge asshole who beats up women and kicks puppies(Not saying Belushi did those things he just came across like a prick)

And Animal House doesn't hold up at all since they made tons of films like that usually with better actors and a tighter script.

A better cast than Animal House? Animal House had Tom Hulce, Kevin Bacon, John Belushi, Karen Allen, Tim Matheson, Donald Sutherland and John Vernon.

Also, Animal House is not successful because it had a "tight script." It works because of its looseness and energy.

That's the style of humor that was popular at the time when John Belushi made his name in the 70s.

Cutting edge humor in the 1970s was mostly defined by National Lampoon, and that was a particularly coarse brand of gross-out humor: babies in blenders, cruelty to animals, misogyny, and borderline racism.

Its a matter of opinion, so nobody is wrong, but I'd be interested in what College/FratBoy comedies you think are better then Animal House?

Animal House sort of set the standard for those type of comedies, so many like you who were born after it came out and have seen the countless copycat movies, may not appreciate it.

This.

Also there is a political aspect to the satire in "Animal House" that was striking in the late 70s but that most people watching it since 1990 probably do not even understand.
