Yes, sadly I had a friend earlier this year who was in "stable" condition after being found unresponsive. He was on a ventilator and had brain damage. A few months later he passed away. He was a huge Star Wars fan too, and when it happened I thought about how he'll never get to see 8 & 9. Very sad.

"Stable" really isn't even an official condition anyway, although it usually does denote that the patient's vital signs do not suggest immediate danger (i.e., not "critical"). Of course, this term is being provided by her mother, not by a medical professional, so it is pretty meaningless.

If she did suffer a full cardiac arrest on the plane, as had been reported, and was only treated with CPR (or even an onboad defib), it's hard for me to believe that she will not suffer some severe neurological impairment.

Her brother said on the 24th that she was on a ventilator so I assume she still is.

Yeah, I'm not taking much comfort in "stable", unfortunately.

Doesnt stable just mean there is no volitility to the condition over a period of time? I've heard terms before such as "critical but stable". In that case the condition is not good but has not change for a certain length of time.

Since her mom has direct access to the medical professionals treating her daughter it's pretty meaningful. She's probably repeating what the doctors told her. Unless Debbie purposely lied.

RIP

In addition to being Princess Leia, I always thought she seemed like a smart, sensible person.

This one stings more than I would've expected. Not sure why.

I dont fly, but could this had been result of a blood clot from the long flight she was on?
Do these types of trips allow passengers to move around so they dont get clots?

One wonders if the SW shooting schedule of the last few years contributed. She is older and a former addict after all.

I'm sure it did. It put her back in the spotlight and also in the cross-hairs of internet pricks/journalists.

I knew the odds were against her...going that long without a pulse. Was still hoping she'd pull through.

RIP, Princess.

Re: RIP Carrie Fisher (1956-2016)

I was supposed to meet her at a comic convention this upcoming year. I wanted to ask her about her life and what it was like to know John Belushi. She seemed like quite the character. (So, now its Leonard Nimoy, Ron Glass and Carrie Fisher of celebrities I'll never get to meet).

Damn. I was concerned at the lack of updates. I was afraid this would be the reason.

This just sucks.
