I agree that once Lucas labeled Star Wars Episode IV, there was the idea that episodes 1-3 involved Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the Clone Wars. I just don't think it was ever established that those episodes would definitely be filmed next. At least during the development of Empire, the idea was to continue with the existing cast past 3 films.

Here's an interview from 1983 where Lucas dithers on whether he wants to do sequels or prequels next:
http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/n...ation-19830721
Empire and Jedi were what that first film was supposed to be. And after that, I can tell another story about what happens to Luke after this trilogy ends. All the prequel stories exist: where Darth Vader came from, the whole story about Darth and Ben Kenobi, and it all takes place before Luke was born. The other one – what happens to Luke afterward – is much more ethereal. I have a tiny notebook full of notes on that. If I'm really ambitious, I could proceed to figure out what would have happened to Luke.

There was a book I read as a kid - "The Green Planet", I think that was the title... about ET back on his home planet. Pretty much fucking sucked.

I remeber the book, but never read it. I don't thinkit had any humans in it and was all E.T. alien based.

Old School. It wouldn't have been as good as the original but I thought the chemistry between the leads was good enough to make an inferior sequel still be worth it.

It is amazing that it is taking them so long to make a sequel to this. By 2019 it will have been 15 years since the first movie came out. Considering the success of the first movie, I believe being the highest grossing animated film at its time. You would think they would have been more enthusiastic about getting a sequel out there considering the money involved.

Personally, I'd rather they do a sequel only when they feel like they have a good story for one, not just churning one out quickly because the first film was successful.

Also, keep in mind that when the first film came out, they were focused on doing original film ideas each year. It wasn't until about 6 years later that they got "sequel happy," starting with Toy Story 3, which is a film Disney threatened to do on its own before they bought Pixar. And aside from Cars 2 jumping the line, the sequels have been released mostly in order of the originals (Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo preceded The Incredibles, and got sequels before it).

The Incredibles was never the highest grossing animated film of all time. Highest it has ever been was 4th (Behind Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Shrek 2, and not by a small margin, by nearly 300 million)

While I like that movie, I don't really have any desire to see a sequel to it. Now, a new movie, actually set in Eternia using the characters, I'd be all over. The little bits of info coming out about the new movie that's supposedly early in the process look good.

I agree that I wish there would have been another TNG film but I really don't find Nemesis to be as bad as its reputation is. Not a perfect film by any means but it's decent in my opinion. The biggest thing that I think hurts it is the fact that it's the final TNG film and it doesn't feel like a proper send off. There are some decent elements to it even if the film sort of mirrors The Wrath of Khan but overall I think it's entertaining. Just wish there was another chapter to those characters to really bookend their story.

I always wanted more when I was younger but truthfully I think the trilogy we got is close to perfect and I think doing any more would just damage the existing films. Still I admit that part of me always wondered how another film would have been. I only would have wanted it if the original creators and cast were involved though which at this point I don't see ever happening.
