He should have said no more funny than Keanu, cause I didn't laugh once at that.

Kinda, but I was getting an irony/satirical vibe because of how it was very M. Night Shamalan-esque type trailer (From the mind of...) It's Guess Who's Coming To Dinner + Misery + Stepford Wives (maybe, haven't seen it). I'm not saying it won't be good, but I don't think it's really gonna be scary per se.

100% with 78 reviews no less, which is pretty stellar. Reviews also seem to suggest that it probably has a few more laughs than originally suggested and also describe the cultural commentary as nuanced.

100% for a horror movie pretty much makes it a must-see.

Caught it tonight. Definitely a new spin on the genre, and lots of influence from old school horror classics with a bit of Hammer horror brand sprinkled near the end . I won't go into too many specifics, but I do think it may be wise to lower expectations a bit. It's not a jump scare kind of horror, but more about creepy atmosphere, kind of like last year's "The Witch," but this is a LOT more entertaining. This movie reminded of one of my favorite horror movies, "An American Werewolf in London" , in terms of style. The ability to be a horror movie but still maintain some humor.

That said, Universal (who distributed this movie) really does have a good catalog when it comes to the horror genre. Universal Monsters, The Thing, Psycho, etc. If I see a horror movie advertised with their logo, I tend to get a bit more confident given their track record.

I just got back from the show and thought it was phenomenal. It's a horror masterpiece and scathing satire. It's definitely one wacky game show.

At the end I blurted out to a friend of mine:
Spoiler:
No more white women for me!

For sure, that's some high praise. Also maybe one of the only times you'll see "lower your expectations a bit" and "it reminded me of AWIL" in the same paragraph.

Saw this night. Absolutely loved it.

As a minority and as a Genre nut, I think this is one of the most important Genre films released in a long time.

Everyone should check it out. I'm hoping to see it again over the weekend.

When I say "lower expectations" I only mean to do so that one won't be disappointed or build it up too much in their minds. Having had time to reflect I think the film is a lot better than I originally thought. It's greatest strength is good pacing. It remembers horror needs to be tight and not bloated (i.e. Cure For Wellness).

FWIW, they had this in a small theater last night at my 9:40 showing and there were only about 12 people in the theater. I hope this movie does well but last night was not a good sign, or maybe it was just the fact that it was a preview screening. I truly hope the R rating isn't going to sink this one, as unlike lesser efforts like Cure For Wellness, this one is actually pretty good .

My only gripe:

Spoiler:
that I was able to call Allison Williams being in on the devious plot from the teasers. That was pretty cliched. I did like that it was revealed more or less at the halfway point than as the final twist to lead to a downbeat ending.

A lil' too much overpraise for this on RT, but I still had a good time with it.

I loved that great touch involving the running theme of deer.

I really liked it, except for one thing...
Spoiler:
how in the hell did he get the cotton in his ears with both his hands bound tightly? Nobody better try to convince me that he un-did the straps with his mouth and tightened them again the same way

He was only bound by his wrists, not his chest. If you can't sit in a chair with your arms on the armrests & bend over enough to touch your ears, you got big belly.

I loved this movie. It was humorous without losing tension. It was odd in an appealing way, and I never really knew where it was going. And it had the quality I like best in moves, after it was over, it let me go back and see earlier scenes in a new light. And without going too deep into the plot, I loved the spin it gave on black / white relations.

The film only cost 4.5 million to make and it made 11 million on Friday alone. The word of mouth on this is ridiculous from I'm hearing. I bet Saturday's take will be huge and this could have staying power until Logan is released Thursday.

Maybe I was just more perceptive to the hints in this case, but I called exactly where it was going even before the

Still, I enjoyed it very much.

Strange. The showing I attended on Thursday evening only had 12 people and was in the theater's smallest room. I guess the sneak showings aren't the best gauge this time of year, and that's a good thing as this movie deserves success. Still, I would have liked to see this one with a crowd to see some reactions.
