Really thought Williams was Amanda Peet for most of the film.

I'm down with that.

Re: Get Out (2017, W/D: Jordan Peele) S: Kaluuya, Williams, Whitford, Keener

I saw it opening weekend at a Sunday matinee, which, for my theater, is usually only about 30% full. When we walked in, still with ten minutes or so until the start time, the theater was about 80% full, and by the time the film started, I'd say the theater was about 90% full.

I knew from the opening credits that it was going to be good. You can usually tell within moments whether the director knows what he or she is doing, and you can tell that Jordan Peele had a vision for the film.

I was expecting a lot of crowd interaction (such as talking back to the screen), but the audience was strangely quiet throughout the whole film. I did notice quite a few folks checking their cell phones throughout the film, but I think that says less about the quality of the film and more about how addicted we as a society are to our social media apps and our cell phones.

I liked the film; I thought that it was exceptionally well-made, and I loved the way that music was used throughout. I thought that the character of Rod was screamingly funny, and it was nice that Peele used that character to provide both tension relief and a bit of levity to the film. His rant about
Spoiler:
Jeffrey Dahmer, oral sex, and sex slaves
is probably the funniest few minutes I've seen in a film in a long time.

My lone gripe about this film is this:

Spoiler:
It's obvious from Rose's exhortations near the end that Walter and Georgina are her grandparents in new bodies. However, if I were a septuagenarian given a new, young body, I wouldn't waste my new looks and new lease on life hanging around doing domestic chores for my family. I'd be out creating a whole new existence.

I guess that's just nitpicking, but that plot element seems rather disingenuous to me. I mentioned it to one of the friends with whom I saw the movie, and he said that, at least in Georgina's case, old women like nothing better than to dote on their kids and grandkids. I still don't buy it, especially since Granddad was such a super-genius and now he spends his days splitting firewood and raking leaves?
But, really, that's my only complaint. I think that it's a very good movie.

rbrown498, my take on that issue is that:

Spoiler:
Grandma and Grandpa only play at being the servant and groundskeeper when there is fresh bait. Once the mind swap is complete, they return to their real lives.

That IS a possibility that I hadn't considered.

This one flew under the radar for me a bit--knew nothing about it going in.

Thought it was excellent. Very suspenseful and I'm anxious to check it out again.

Speaking of reviews, why hasn't dvdtalk done a theatrical review on this yet?

Re: Get Out (2017, W/D: Jordan Peele) S: Kaluuya, Williams, Whitford, Keener

I somehow managed to avoid all spoilers about this movie save for the trailer until I saw it last night.

I really liked it. Very well paced, kept me interested the whole time, just the right about of creep and tension. I LOVED how it ended and am glad the alternate ending was not chosen.

I thought the movie was very well acted, especially from Williams and Kaluuya. Keener was meh and the brother was atrocious.

Looking forward to a repeat viewing. I will definitely see the next one from Peele.

I saw this last night, and I'm still thinking about it. Driving home last night, my wife and I both felt like we were still in the movie's world. That is how effective it was!
