Looks good. From the original description on the TIFF website, I was imagining this to be a much darker movie, but it looks more feel good.

Looking forward to this. I think the bulk of it was filmed within 5-10 miles of me (Manchester By-The-Sea is the real name of the town).

This reminds me, I really need to see "Margaret". Hope Manchester By The Sea doesn't get the same under the radar fuck you release.

Comes out this week to critical acclaim (91%). Apparently Casey Affleck is a lock for the Best Lead Actor Oscar for this movie.

Affleck is incredible in this one and Michelle Williams gets a helluva scene - Sharp writing, a great cast and a nice balancing act of tone make this one memorable. It isn't fast paced and definitely not plot driven but is an interesting character study in masculinity and grief. The young kid gives a good turn too - I was really impressed when I saw this at TIFF.... just know that it's got some very heavy material they've done a good job of keeping under wraps in most of the marketing...it'll get dusty in the theatre at a few parts. One of the year's best films.

Hard to believe it's been 16 years since "You Can Count On Me" -- which I think is a really good film.
Kinda made Ruffalo and Laura Linney a big deal.
Too bad his only other film had so much BS surrounding it.
This new one looks good. Most of us will probably have to wait until a home video release.

I just finished watching this a few hours ago. WOW. Given the strong critical reception I came in a little worried that I might have set my expectations too high but I really was blown away. Despite the heavy material and tone, Lonergan did a great job as always slipping in moments of perfect comedy.
For those curious, I think this movie is probably closer to "You Can Count On Me" than "Margaret." I felt "Margaret" was a bit unfocused, poorly paced, and saturated with uninteresting and unlikable characters. None of that rears its head here.

just saw this with step mom. Wow! So affecting and sublime performances. Please give Casey Oscar now. Just terrific. So no frills, real people human drama that hardly seemed scripted. Devastating, but hope a great humor. 4.5 star.

Yea... I haven't seen all the contenders yet... but I think this year is Casey's. I'm glad Damon stepped aside from acting in this. I really can't even imagine him doing what Casey did here. Interestingly enough... the original idea for the film came form John Krasinski (for him to act and Damon to direct).
Great performance all around.
I really liked the way it as structured.

I don't know anything about this movie, but the only thing I keep hearing about it is how his past sexual harassment allegations will hurt Casey Affleck's chances of winning an Oscar for this. Some people think he should be excluded from awards consideration in much the same way that Nate Parker has.

Wow... I didn't recognize that one of Patrick's girlfriends is Suzy from Moonrise Kingdom. I did know Hedge's was though.

When is this truly going to expand nationwide? It's on about 150 screens right now, I think.
Can't wait to see this.

Saw it, loved it. One of the most heartbreaking films I've ever seen. The Oscar better go to Affleck. A lot of the award prediction websites are saying Williams will win in the Best Supporting Actress category. She was only in a few scenes but she was sensational. Everyone in the film did a great job in fact. It was hands down the best screenplay for me all year. And I haven't seen all of the other Oscar contenders yet, but it's probably my favorite of 2016.

Thought it was good. Some sad scenes but tempered with well timed humor.

For those interested, that amazing song that runs throughout most of the trailer is "Land of the Living" by Matthew Perryman Jones.
He has an album of the same name.
