Didn't not realize how much the guy was hated. But I can see that. Agree he was fine in this film. He was actually great in "The Book of Mormon" on Broadway. Was lucky enough to snag tickets to see that a few months after it opened.

I saw it today and liked it. It's an old school whodunnit, a type of which we haven't seen in theatres in forever. Younger audiences might find the whole thing too old-fashioned. Probably the best cast of any movie this year. Branagh was excellent as Hercule Poirot, and I actually got used to his crazy mustache. The production design, cinematography and costuming is excellent and Oscar-caliber. It's done quite well in its opening weekend, so I hope Fox greenlights a sequel, which is hinted at in the final scene. I loved that book as well.
One notable thing the movie did was to comment upon the casual racism and snobbery of that era, which Agatha Christie herself was no stranger to.

Thoughts on trailer #2: the makeup on Branagh and Depp looks too heavy and fake.

My daughter really liked Agatha Christie books for a while a few years ago. I told her "For fun, go Google the original title of 'And Then There Were None'". Her jaw dropped.

I saw this and was intrigued for the first 30 minutes or so but got bored quickly and actually dosed off a good portion of the movie. Might revisit a couple of years down the road.

My wife and I really enjoyed this one. Pretty old school, but a wonderful cast and good cinematography kept us into it throughout. Not sure if it stuck to the novel and original film, but we went in without seeing or reading those versions, so that probably helped keep the reveals interesting.

I saw this tonight with MoviePass and really liked it. As a kid in the 80s, I didn't care for Poirot or any of that fare on PBS, tuning out whatever parents and grandparents tuned in. As an adult, I thought this looked fun and with MoviePass it was a no-brainer. It was really good, not a great film, but really good. Had me guessing the whole time. Fun performances. I will say I was going to skip this (or save it for a matinee if I happened to have time) until I got MoviePass so to that end I was pleasantly surprised.
I'd be up for the sequel. Heck, if Branaugh wants to make this his every two years director/actor vehicle, Bond-style, I'm in for the next ten.
I think that's a great idea, I love that!

And yes, isn't MoviePass wonderful?! I saw maybe three movies a year the last several years. I've seen ten in the last month.

Saw it on Saturday and loved it. It was just a fun movie. I was not familiar at all with the book or the 1974 movie. Went home and found the original and watched that over the weekend as well.

I watched this today. It was discount day at the UEC theater in Lebanon. $5.50 tickets and a free popcorn. This was my first time and this theater and it has electric luxury leather recliners and it was interesting figuring out how to work the recliner.
Overall, I liked the movie, but I had trouble understanding Poirot's accent. Also, the plot had me a bit confused. I couldn't figure out who the murderer was, but the reveal made sense. I'll definitely go check out the sequel. (I may have to wear the closed captioning glasses for it.) 3.25/5
I haven't seen the original film or read the book. I'll definitely be checking them out though.

Haven't read the book nor have I seen a film version before this one. Enjoyable, old school type movie.

I enjoyed this film version and heard last week that "Death On The Nile" has gotten "Green Light."
I have never read any of her books, planning on trying out Death On The Nile, in preparation.

Just saw it and liked it, and will be in for the sequel. I saw the previous version years ago but didn't remember anything but the ending.
They took a while to actually get on the train, but I was OK with it because they were fleshing out Poirot, who unfortunately is probably fading from public consciousness. I admit that even when I was watching a lot of British TV mysteries (Jeremy Brett, Inspector Morse, etc.), I never watched much David Suchet. Even the Poirot TV movies are probably more familiar to me.

We enjoyed it. I thought that Branaugh was particularly good at the end when he has a crisis of conscience. The overhead camera view to demonstrate just how cramped and small the train car was worked well. The frequent use of objects interrupting the view of the actors didn't work as well. The opening adventure came from another Agatha Christie story, and it was a good introduction to Hercule Poirot.
I thought that Michelle Pfeiffer was great as an older woman. I haven't seen her for years. I've never seen Josh Gag before, so I don't know why people hate him. He was fine. Johnny Depp was fun as the mobster.

Watched this yesterday and it was a lot of fun. Baranagh was excellent as Poirot. I hear he's directing Death in the Nile next.

Watched this on HBO last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I vaguely knew the outcome of the story from pop culture references over the years, but that didn't keep me from being engaged as the clues unfolded.
What I really liked was how luxurious this movie was. Large images, fancy photography, big actors. The same story could have been told very simply and cheaply, but like first class on the Orient Express, they made this movie as extravagantly as possible. It was fun to watch a big, expensive production about people standing around talking. It reminded me of the age before TV took over story-telling, when Hollywood used to make movies that weren't based on comic books or Star Wars.

Watched yesterday, had never seen the original story (only Doctor Who and porn versions), it was pretty fun, for what I was able to watch. We also were trying a new strain at the same time, so I was in and out a little bit.
Was the ending the same as the book?
