I've been slogging through this in 3D. Great 3D, first 45 minutes of movie, not so much.

Pretty uninspired movie, but ok at most. What was the meaning of the end credits sequence and Essex Corp.?

Nathaniel Essex (aka Mr. Sinister) can be assumed to be behind Essex Corp.

After watching horror movies all the month of October, we finally got around to watching X-Men: Apocalypse, I gotta tell you that alot of the criticism towards this movie in this thread is unfounded IMHO. We were seriously entertained by this latest addition to the X-Men franchise, I don't regret buying this movie one bit, glad to have it in my collection...

Same here. I was surprised by the dislike for it. Had me all teary and all that stuff.
I have to catch up with the last two Wolverine movies. Trailer for the new one looks epic (maybe it's just the Johnny Cash track). But I still haven't watched the first two.

entertainment doesn't equal quality. I love shit too. Not that this is shit. It's just mediocre. As a comic fan, I wasn't entertained much. And only hammers in how Singer never really falls in love w/ some aspects of the world or characters, understandably so at times w/ some things of the property. As a movie fan, I was bored for the most part. Some nice bits w/ Erik and Logan. Which doesn't make sense to put in here but it's a very nice scene w/ him. out of context? it's a quality moment. The trailers quickly showed me something that I couldn't' exactly believe after we DoFP. It's just a very average movie. Kind of goes nowhere really to have a narrative w/ a reason to matter. I liked the Quicksilver bit but even that it's just a retread of something already done but now bigger. The wow factor kind of lost for me.
Singer's previous X films had a lot of heart and emotion in them. This seemed like the most mainstream of them all to me. Not to say he doesn't work in the mainstream, he does, but his other X films weren't by the numbers like this one. This one seemed like something that a studio created to hit all the beats you'd want but w/o anything unique to it.

ridiculously bloated CGI-fest devoid of brain or heart.
Fox' X-Men had a good run. Now it is time to bring it into the MCU fold.

X Men franchise > MCU.
I like the insinuation that somehow the MCU films have more brain or heart than the X Men films. (or brain or heart at all) The X Men films aren't perfect, but they have heart for days compared to the MCU films. Neither are extraordinary cinema. But saying the MCU has something the X Men films don't is laughable.

This movie had one good scene, the one with Quicksilver. It has little replay value other than that.
And the X-men series has the potential to be greater than any other Cinematic Universe.....but so far its been good at best, but never spectacular. And at its worse its been truly horrible.

The Quicksilver scene isn't any good though. It's fun, sure. But it's just another moment for him like in DoFP. And it goes way too long too.

Apocalypse just felt to me like an X-Men movie for the sake of an X-Men movie. It didn't have any drive or purpose other than simply existing. It basically took ideas and concepts from the other, better films in the franchise, put them in a blender and spit them out. Here's hoping that Logan can wash the bad taste of this one out of my mouth.

Unless they let Logan go dumb fuck at the end like The Wolverine did. Seems like Fox kind of let Jackman and Mangold have some heavier say on this than before possibly. Cuz I've no idea how anyone could be comfortable w/ that ending on the page. It just comes out of nowhere w/ BS Silver Samurai shit. I know Jackman loves the character but he's also blinded by it too. The guy can't see shit sometimes w/ how much he loves Logan.
True about Apocalypse. It literally has no purpose to exist. It doesn't do anything. It doesn't reveal anything of any value.

Re: X-Men: Apocalypse (Singer, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
Finally saw this....I really enjoyed it. Once again I'll say it, the "First Class" series of X-films have been some of my favorate Marvel films.
Like:
-Apocalypse's film look. I always though the character's design was STUPID looking in the comics. So to me this film design worked.
-Storm with an accent. Because Africa MudaFuggah!
-Weapon X cameo.
- Magneto and Prof X.
- Magneto at "full Power" letting loose on the world.
- The red headed Stark chick looking good enough to Eat.
- Wanna be Speedster Dude bringin' the funny. (Only REAL Speedserts are DC Speedsters)
I no Likey so much:
- Not enough Psylocke
-The 80's setting. Fuck the 80's. But yeah I get it...
- Speedster dude blowing his "Maury Povich Moment" with Magneto.
-Not addressing the Mystique Nightcralwer thing...

So I watched this a second time and I gotta say I hated it. It wasn't as bad as Last Stand but it pales in comparison First Class and DoFP or even X2. It seems like this felt rushed. It is a completely forgettable film - Which is sad since this era of the X-Men is right up my alley.

Yeah, you just can't get three decent movies in a row out with this one.
X-men was entertaining, X2 was a good movie, X3 was shit.
FC was decent, DoFP was pretty good, Apocalypse was shit.

Looks like no more films with this cast. Too bad, i enjoyed them a lot. While there are some rightful complaints or issues in all 3 films I think they were as good or better than the original 3 movies.
