No Time to Die (Bond 25) (2021, D: Fukunaga) -- News, rumors, etc.
There's no thread for Bond 25 yet, so instead of posting a bunch of news items. Put everything here.

The latest rumor:
It could be a slow day in the British press, who aren’t always known to have the highest of standards when running a celebrity piece, or actually legitimate, but another entry in the Daniel Craig Won’t Be Back As Bond saga has a new chapter.
As you’re probably well aware, Craig spent pretty much the entire press tour for “Spectre” griping about playing 007, saying he would never do it again, and conducting interviews as if he were getting his wisdom teeth pulled at the same time. Frankly, given his attitude, I’m surprised the Bond bosses would even want him back. But according to the latest chatter from Daily Mail, Craig has turned down approximately $76 million dollars to make two more Bond movies (note, that figure is not base salary, but includes earnings from potential profit sharing, endorsements, and a role as a co-producer; basically, given how Hollywood accounting works, he probably wouldn’t see the bulk of that money for a long time).
However, BBC actually did some digging, and according to their sources, “no decision is likely to be made for a while” by Craig regarding his return. I’d wager he’s waiting to see how the Todd Field directed adaptation of Jonathan Franzen‘s “Purity” will play out, though troublingly, it doesn’t seem to have been picked up by anybody since it was announced back in February.
Meanwhile, according to gambling types, Tom Hiddleston is the favorite to step into the role of 007, but if you ask me, I’d go with his “High-Rise” co-star Luke Evans instead.

So Hiddleston or Evans, you say?

I think Butler is too old (46) to be a first time Bond. But it would be interesting to have a Bond who had previously been in another Bond film (Tomorrow Never Dies).

Hopefully Craig is leaving. I'm tired of his miserable unhappy take on the character.

I'd be cool with Hiddleston. He would offer a completely different take on the character. He's great on The Night Manager on AMC.

How about an unknown?
I like Hiddleston but don't see him in the role. Ditto on every other suggestion people have offered up.

I don't see Hiddleston as Bond. I like him as an actor but I dunno I just can't picture it.

I don't think he hates the character. I think that making those movies is a fairly grueling experience and that by the time he's done making one, the idea of making another sounds like the worst idea ever. I also think he has a pretty dry/sarcastic sense of humor and that by the time he's done his 800th interview (a process he also seems to dislike), he starts to get a bit punchy and says a lot of stuff that people take the wrong way.

I think the traditionalists would lose their shit if they had a gay man play James Bond, so I think Luke Evans wouldn't work for them.

Seems like after every movie Craig bitches about playing Bond. A shame though, I really like him in the role even if the movies haven't been that great.

Not familiar with sarcasm I see.
I should actually thank people like Supermallet. All the people clamoring for him to be Bond has basically ruined Elba's interest in doing it. He's sick of talking about it.

I was going to refer to that but Evans is so ridiculously good looking that I figured they wouldn't give a fuck but then I came to my senses. Bond can't be a "puff" per se.

I'm still saying it's going to be someone like Daniel Craig or Timothy Dalton - someone you don't see coming. Someone lesser known, but really good.
Every name actor that has been discussed is a fall back choice. They almost always go with the lesser known actor since hitting the jackpot with Connery (a lesser known actor when he got the role).

James Norton, hiddleston, and Dan Stevens are my picks in order.
I want them to go as young as possible. I didn't see Loki in the role til he killed the night manager.

I'd prefer to see one or two more w Craig... he's always been pretty temperamental in his interviews..which I don't really mind. I'd just rather see closer to a 15yr run with one actor vs 10yrs.

The only truly unknown that's been cast as Bond was George Lazenby. All the other actors had some degree of acclaim or fame prior to being cast as Bond.

Neither Roger Moore nor Pierce Brosnan were lesser known actors when they were cast as James Bond. Both had hit TV shows and Brosnan was also in Mrs. Doubtfire.

The original notion before they signed Craig was to re-boot the character, and cast a young James Bond, just starting out. Since the Craig films are sort of their own self-contained arc, they could go back to that idea. However, I don't know if there's a reasonably young actor they want to trust with a very expensive franchise (that's probably what happened when it came to "Casino Royale" with Craig.
