The Accountant (2016, Gavin O'Connor) S: Affleck, Kendrick, Bernthal, Simmons
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. With a Treasury agent (J.K. Simmons) hot on his heels, Christian takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise.

I haven't heard anything about the film, but that's a great trailer. The fact that it's labeled a "teaser trailer" makes me think they are going to spoil it with full trailer that gives the entire plot away.

Looks really good. Surprised there's not more chatter about it.

As is typically the case, when reviews start showing up only a couple days before a movie is released, it's a bad sign.
34% on RT, after 29 reviews posted today.

The RT score concerned me... but Stuckmann liked it. And I generally agree with everything he has to say. I will probably still check this out Saturday morning.

The commercials have had me interested but if the reviews are skewing that negative, I'll wait and see what the DVDTalk consensus is.

My evening ended up being free so I saw this tonight. I did like it overall...I'd give it a B- or a C+. I really liked it until the end.
This movie is difficult to talk about without spoilers, so...
Despite all those issues, I enjoyed myself. There are some cool action sequences, and the cast was fantastic, and it had some funny moments (intentional). I was never bored. And Anna Kendrick makes any movie better.
I'll probably pick this up on BD when it hits $10 or less.

I think the trailer is great. Will probably see it this weekend. I thought this would be a bigger hit with critics. I think Gavin O'Connor has a great movie coming. From the reviews, it looks like this isn't it yet. But I'll always look forward to what he does.

I've only seen the TV ads, which look entertaining but the movie just seems horribly written.

I liked the film. I certainly wouldn't call it action packed, but there were more sequences than I would have guessed from the trailer.

Caught this one today. Overall, pretty lackluster. It's not terrible, but it comes across as though WB decided they needed a Bourne type franchise and who better to do that with than Ben Affleck? I saw the twist of
Also, I hate when movies feel the need to take a break before the third act and basically explain everything about which the audience may have a question. That's a mark of weak screenwriting IMO.
P.S. I agree that Anna Kendrick brightened the movie. She was its heart. So much so that it almost seemed like one of her solo movies collided with this one.

I saw it last night with the wife. She picked up on the twist about halfway through the movie. I didn't really pay attention, because, well Anna Kendrick.
Seriously, the movie was great. We liked it a lot. My son is high functioning autistic, so it obviously hit home a bit.

I thought the movie was great too. The audience reception is much, much higher then the critics on this one, and i'm glad it opened decently well at the box office. It's nothing new or unique, and takes a lot of concepts that a lot of movies like this in the past have done, but I think it does it well and all the actors are great - I thought Affleck did a great job with a lot of his mannerisms were really funny, and a lot of his moments with Kendrick were great. As for the twists -
Really, really enjoyable to me.

Just got back from a viewing and was pleasantly surprised. Great film, probably in my top 10 for the year. I found Affleck's character fascinating and it was fun to see how his setup and lifestyle was meticulously arranged. Bernthal and Simmons were great as well.
I thought the twists were really good and certainly made up for the cookie cutter Deep Water Horizon I also saw. That movie offered me nothing beyond the trailer.

Me and a buddy of mine caught a matinee yesterday. We both liked it as well.
Both of us also figured out the big reveal as well.
Affleck was solid playing this autistic badass assassin aka accountant. it was definitely not what I was expecting. Started out a little slow, but there were some really cool action/fight scenes with him and a shit load of assailants once things got going.
I thought the flashback scenes telling his story leading up to the big conclusion were pretty well done.
I enjoyed Anna Kendrick's minor part in this along with her scenes with Affleck.
Overall I'd give this a solid B

While I wasn't a huge fan of this movie, I would probably be down for a sequel if they did something like send him to another country and tell a Ronin type story.
