This didn't do much for me. There's a lot of good performances but overall I felt like it was pretty forgettable and something I'd only want to watch once. The first hour or so I thought it was a bit too slow for its own good and while it picks up the story feels a bit all over the place. I didn't hate it but I can see why it was critically panned.

Just got back and I enjoyed this. Although I kind of suspected some of the twists I can't say I really saw them coming. They just didn't surprise. I do find though that I generally don't see the twist unless it's unusually obvious.

One thing I didn't get though:

Spoiler:
Why did Simmons have to basically blackmail that chick into helping him? I thought he was going to want a blowjob or something.

What a strange movie this ended up being. It's like the story tellers didn't know which story they wanted to tell. Direction was good, acting was good, but I can't say it was a good movie.

None of the plot points (authorities trying to catch him, his current case he was working on, the whole brother scenario...etc) had center stage. The story needed a clearer direction and should have stuck with one main plot point to dive into.

Completely agree Noonan. The lack of focus really hurt the movie overall. I thought the trailer was one of the best of the year, but the movie was maybe a D+. And it's easy to see why because it has all the elements to make a great movie, but the glue to hold it together is missing.

As for the twist, I'll admit I didn't see it coming until about two minutes before the reveal only because it seemed so unlikely.

Saw the twist coming the whole way but I really enjoyed this one overall. It has some issues of course, but I would welcome any future sequels.

Good action and Ben did a good job acting in this one.

I watched this tonight and was floored. It's as if Jason Bourne and John Wick had a baby. It's definitely going on my Top-10 of the year.

Spoiler:
I also liked that he had multiple copies of Action Comics #1 in his personal stash. Nice touch.

Watched this last night and thought it was leaps and bounds better than I expected it to be. A solid 4/5 from me.

Watched this last night and finished it a little disappointed. While I felt there was a decent movie in there somewhere, overall I thought the script was a mess with too many competing storylines.

I felt the same way. I'm not as down on Affleck as an actor as most are but I just felt like the film didn't really work. Kendrick especially.

The one glaring thing I didn't like about this movie...

When Anna Kendrick leans in for a kiss, you don't brush her off. This reveals that Affleck's character was not autistic, but retarded. This point was confirmed when my brother exclaimed "Oh my god! What are you, retarded?"

I'm not into kissing 13 year old girls so I don't really blame Affleck's character for that.

What's stranger is that based on a throwaway conversation he decides he must do everything to save her life.

Well, she's 31, so I'll just consider that an idiotic statement and leave it at that.

Re: The Accountant (2016, Gavin O'Connor) S: Affleck, Kendrick, Bernthal, Simmons

I loved this movie but I can see how some wouldn't - Mike86's comments are probably a reflection of how most people who didn't like it feel.

I was really surprised at how good Affleck was in this - Not a big fan of Bernthal at all and he's doing everything he can to become a leading man but I don't think he ever will - I feel he took this role because it resulted in him
Spoiler:
"sticking around" at the end and having a direct connection with the main protag
- whatever though, to each his own.

Oh and Affleck pulling rubber guard - good stuff.

This was my first 4K purchase as well....why are eco-packs still around??

Maybe he meant 31 and simply transposed the numbers? He doesn't like women who are creeping towards middle age?

I guess you are too idiotic to realize what I was saying that she looks like a teenage girl, not that she IS one. It might have been too high brow for you though, so I'll leave it at that.

Anna Kendrick does not look like a teenage girl. As the father of a teenage girl, Anna looks nothing like the gaggle of teens girls that are stomping in and out of the house all weekend long.

Yeah, she really doesn't look like a teenage girl at all.

That's fine. I don't really care for her. We should all at least agree there is no chemistry between the two of them.

I don't think I have ever seen Anna Kendrick have great chemistry with any of her male costars.

Kendrick had pretty good chemistry with Sam Rockwell in Mr. Right

And to be fair, I've never seen Ben Affleck have good on screen chemistry with anyone either except maybe in an episode of Voyage of the Mimi. I actually thought that's why people put Affleck in movies, he's good at the lone wolf thing.

I thought Kendrick was good in 50/50 with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

But yeah, no way does she look like a teenage girl.

Never saw that movie.

I thought Affleck had decent chemistry with Joey Lauren Adams in Chasing Amy and with Sandra Bullock in Force of Nature but in general I agree.

I couldn't make it past the first few minutes of this movie so didn't see any of her scenes. Will take your word for it.

It's Kendrick's teeth... they're a non-starter for me.
