I didn't care for the song, but the opening sequence was interesting, in particular when they showed past characters from Craig's previous films. Has that been done before?
And the worst song and sequence IMO is still Die Another Day. Nothing about that song or opening sequence was good.

It was nice to see him tortured in that one. But that was it. Otherwise... that was not the way to go for that sequence.

Some bits fit well w/ it but his voice goes too far sometimes w/ a lot of moments in there. I think it would have been better for a woman to sing that one.
I was also thinking about that too. I can't remember if they've done that or not. I did like that that they did that. Interesting how they left out Greene out of it.

I liked a good majority of the title sequence, but I unintentionally laughed at the beginning. Craig in the flames just looked really bad.

I movie agree with many of you, in that I didn't care for the theme song; I enjoyed this quite a bit, not the best of Craig's films. I am hoping that Craig will do at least one more film.

This was far better than the RT score imo... if your like me, and consider Skyfall probably the best made film - but can't get past The Dark Knight and Home Alone similarities, this at least ties, if not beats it outright. Much like Rogue Nation did for M:I earlier this yr, all the elements really come together in this film...sure, it's a bit long...but I can't think of too much I would've cut either.
Fav is still Casino Royale, but this is at least tied w Skyfall imo. If it's the last, it's certainly a good one to go out on. Exceeded expectations.

One other thing:
I really like Bautista's character--kind of a non-cheesy version of Jaws. His character really worked for me as a dangerous, relentless, physically imposing foe for Bond.

I loved his whole introduction. His...application to the position probably could have been better if he actually had like a little fight there but aside from that...his inclusion into the meeting was great. That meeting, man. It just put everything together so well.

You could just feel when that car runs out chasing Bond that it was Hinx. It just raw and powerful. I'm happy for Bautista. He's on a roll of awesome. Good for him.

Yeah, and I thought it was great to show that the character wasn't just some muscular thug--he was also a world-class driver who was as good as Bond.

Just got back from seeing it.
I liked it and probably a little more than Skyfall. Only issue was the length. It was really long and I think they could have cut it down an extra 20 minutes or so to make it an even 2 hour movie. But good action as usual and some great stunts.
I really liked that this film was essentially a Bloefeld origin story. Waltz brought a different take to the character compared to Telly Savalas and Donald Pleasance. The way the movie ended it seemed like Craig was saying goodbye to the character. I'm sure he'll be back to fulfill his contract after a long break, but this film could easily be a finale for him as a the character.

I love Monica Bellucci and think she's still sexy as hell at age 51, but I don't think she really needed to be here. Her scenes with Craig IMO could have easily been cut without much lost. Kind of a waste casting someone like her for such a forgettable role.

Agreed... but, Bond had to attend the funeral for some reason... they didn't spend a lot of time on it. How else to get him from point A to point B and save 5-10minutes?

Yeah, she had a blink and you missed her role in the film. Which surprised me. They made such a big deal out of her being the oldest Bond girl.

Re: Spectre (Mendes, 2015) — The Reviews Thread
My take:
-Worst Bond theme song and title credit sequence ever.
-as mentioned, extremely drab color palette
-really missed the mark in regards to music. There were several great action set pieces that were just crying out for one of the classic Bond themes---or even a new theme that had some distinct melody. Instead, we just got generic music that really could have been from any action movie.
That being said, I'd still put the movie in the top half of Bonds. I liked everyone in the cast, I liked the story, Craig was awesome, and there were some great action scenes.
This score was much better than anything in the movie:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BHNWEj8YIV8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Music is a really important aspect of Bond films for me, and if they had done that better in this movie I'd rank it excellent instead of just good.

And for those that say this is the worst Bond song ever has seemed to have forgotten the abortion by Jack Black and what's her name.
Anyway, saw the movie today with my Dad and my son which was pretty cool. This was the first Bond movie my son has viewed in the theater. He is 11. I was 10 when my Dad took me to my first Bond movie which was Octopussy. I was lucky though since I got two Bond films that year and also got to see Never Say Never Again. Anyway, been a Bond fan all my life and here are my thoughts:
Spectre was just eh. Wasn't horrible but wasn't great either. I am not a Daniel Craig fan as Bond since he has brings the personality of a milk man delivering the mail in every one of his movies. Dry, dull, bored, nondescript, sleepwalking, etc., etc., etc. Smile motherfucker. Your life ain't so bad.
The opening scene was pretty dang good and set a pace that the rest of the film did not live up to. I didn't think the Sam Smith song was terrible and was happy to see them bring the naked chicks back for the opening credits, as minor as they were. The other scene with Bond at the Spectre meeting was also excellent as others have mentioned. I really liked the Oddjob knock-off. It was enjoyable to see him not say and word but have such a presence.
But for those that love to bash the prior Bond films as silly and stupid and always proudly proclaim that we are in the realistic Bond era have to shut their holes after this movie. Of course it had the cliche of Bond being given the one gadget that he had to use. I am sure I forgot a couple of other examples but the scene of him flying the wingless airplane trying to crash in to the bad guys was as dumb as anything in any Roger Moore film. I couldn't figure out of he was trying to rescue the girl or kill her during that entire scene. Of course everyone else was killed or seriously injured yet she escapes his manufactured destruction without a scratch.
He shoots down a flying helicopter from a moving boat at a minimum of 100 yards with a pea shooter. Helicopter then crash lands and the road is immediately cordoned off with no ambulance or police attending to the downed helicopter. Nope. They just stand there and guard the area while they watch an unidentified man with a gun walk onto the bridge and put a gun to a wounded guy's head. And they just stand there. Okay.
Daniel Craig was showing his age a little bit in this one I thought. The casting of Monica Bellucci was great but she was mistakingly underutilized. I would have rather seen her as the main Bond girl. She and Craig had some good chemistry in the minor amount of time they were together.
Which brings me to Bond romancing the 13 year old girl in the main story. I kept getting a Roger Moore/Tanya Roberts vibe in this that was a little uncomfortable (or at least unbelievable). Though Tanya Roberts looked like a woman in her role. Anyway, no chemistry between them and she made Bond look like a child molester. At least Moore stayed away from Bibi in For Your Eyes Only.
I liked the guy who played C and I did enjoy the minor nods to prior Blofeld Bond films. They were mild enough for someone to enjoy them but not intrusive enough to be irritating. The spa from OHMSS. The white cat. The Blofeld scar. Etc.
Someone explain the torture scene to me. So Blofeld hits the spot on the left side of Bond after he told him all the shit it was going to do. So, it just didn't work? Wrong spot? Bond get two drills to the head (which looked rather painful), yet gets up after being 5 feet from a huge explosion and then proceeds to mow down every person near and far from him while barely taking cover?
Anyway, I did wish the director had moved a little further back for the train fight sequence. It looked like those guys had worked hard on their choreography, yet due to the editing and tight shots, I really didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't Quantum Of Solace bad but it still could have been filmed better.
The score was decent in this but I believe there was only one sequence where the main song was used as a theme in the movie. That was the one thing that Barry did to perfection and no composer has been able to match it (with the exception of George Martin's Live & Let Die score). That was a little disappointing since the main song's tune seemed decent.
I thought MoneyPenny, Q and M were all fine. I enjoyed the scene when Q was in danger and I actually felt a little tension in that scene. I was hoping for an appearance by Felix Leiter since he was mentioned but he never showed.
Oh yeah...so Blofeld killed his Dad and caused all this shit for Bond just because his Dad liked Bond? Really? That's it? Did I miss something? Please, somebody tell me I missed something.
All in all, this was just okay. I let a lot of shit pass when it is a James Bond film but I never want to hear from others that this is a more realistic JB. This is just a bored with his job JB that appears to hate life and doesn't know how to smile. Connery, Moore, Brosnan...hell, even Dalton and Lazenby smiled (Dalton not so much). Someone needs to tell the writers and Craig that he can still be a badass and appear to have fun every now and then.
Cut 30 minutes out of this movie.
And my IMAX showing was loud as shit. My ears bled more than Bond did in this movie.

Sorry wet blankets. I enjoyed SPECTRE quite a bit. I was actually surprised that it didn't feel long considering the running time...the pacing was great in my opinion. Yes, it had a lot of the absurd trappings of some of the classic Bond movies that people make fun of and that the other Craig movies had been mostly avoiding, but I thought it was a lot of fun.

Alright, I haven't seen the movie yet, and briefly skimmed the thread, I'm okay with spoilers... I'm easy that way. Anyway, what I'm taking away from the discussion is that this Bond movie is too long... and this is a bad thing!?! I'll take long Bond movies any day all day. Bring it on, I can't wait. That, plus it's getting compared to Skyfall... OMG, this lifelong Bond franchise fan has got an insta boner! I can't wait to see this!
