I'm really glad to see Reynolds get this win. He not only deserved it, but he badly needed it.

Expect Justice League to be postponed, Batfleck's Batman move into its spot, and be Rated R.

Deadpool already becomes the highest grossing of the X-Men franchise.

I'm happy to see Kung Fu Panda 3 hold relatively well since it's opening weekend.

It's also at nearly $500m worldwide, which places it #1 domestic and #2 worldwide in the franchise (behind Days of Future Past which grossed $747m).

Why didn't the studio wait a month and release Risen around Easter? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

They didn't want to go up against Batman v Superman, so they decided closer to the start of Lent? Not sure really.

Risen doing better than The Witch. I guess the power of Christ compelled them.

The Witch is an R-rated art house horror movie that somehow got a wide release, I'm surprised it did as well as it did.

Risen is a Jesus-based studio movie that was extensively sold to churches over the past year. I'm surprised it opened as low as it did (its opening is on par with War Room, and half that of the terrible Son of God, which was a re-editing of previously broadcast material).

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Damn, never mind Deadpool's incredible momentum. I was rather blown away by this tidbit:

From http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend.htm
The top ten films grossed an estimated $92.1M which was up 3% from last year when Focus opened at number one with $18.7M; but down 12% from 2014 when Non-Stop debuted in the top spot with $28.9M.
Non-Stop was the #1 film two years ago at this time? And it racked up $92M domestically? That aging Irish fellow hasn't done too badly for himself in the past little while, has he?

Per the Boxofficeguru:
Deadpool now ranks as the third highest-grossing R-rated film of all time after The Passion of the Christ and American Sniper.

Passion of the Christ made $370m. American Sniper made $350m.

Not sure Deadpool will take either down, wish it would. (In terms of Worldwide from movies rated R in the US, I think Matrix Reloaded holds the title.)

It is currently Fox's 8th biggest domestic release, just behind Home Alone (unadjusted), then there are 4 Star Wars movies and an Avatar... and an Independence Day.

Deadpool probably will surpass American Sniper. There is no chance it reaches The Passion of the Christ.
