Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Looks like WW will either break $300M during the week, or at least next weekend.

I'm guessing Tuesday or Wednesday it'll get passed $400M.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Today's the day for Wonder Woman cracking $400m. It was at $399,828,275 with $395k grossed on Monday.

Weird stat for the day, Dunkirk's gross on Monday is down only 18% as compared to last Monday, very curious to see how it holds this weekend. Somewhat surprised at its success.

Spider-man: Homecoming should crack $300m domestic by Friday.

I do think this weekend will hold up well, I know locally this past weekend was dedicated to back to school shopping for most families (Tax Free Weekend).

I'd say you guys are lucky, but don't you have like a 10% state income tax to counter that? (We have no state income tax thanks to all the tourists, sales tax is 6% - 7.5% though. )

Ranges, but it's around 9%. IIRC, on the ballot they've tried to add a sales tax and lower income tax, but it's (thankfully) failed at least twice before. I've voted against it because I know eventually that state tax will go back up and we'll be stuck with the sales tax as well. Plus, selfishly, I like the idea of paying what the sticker says

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Wonder Woman crossed $400m on Tuesday.
Baby Driver looks like it'll cross $100m this weekend.
Detroit did not gain any traction during the week.

Transformers looks like it'll finish its run with $130m domestic, it's currently at $586m worldwide. By comparison, Age of Extinction pulled $245m domestic and $1.1 billion worldwide.

Annabelle: Creation looks geared to make about $38 - $40m this weekend (domestic).

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Everything held pretty well except The Dark Tower, Kidnap (so-so hold I guess) and Detroit.

And The Nut Job 2 is the latest "winner" for lowest opening for a movie on 3000+ screens. Others this year: Detroit, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, Rough Night, The House, The Circle

A < 50% drop for 2nd weekend is generally really solid, but yeah it's tough to tell when it starts out at $10m.

Is Valerian out of the theaters already?

I guess the sleeper hit of the summer is Girls Trip. It looks to beat Baby Driver and is already has more than double the take of Atomic Blonde.

Apparently Wonder Woman and Baby Driver are getting late summer pushes with 1000 and 800 screens respectively.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

When are they doing that?

WW is still in 800 theaters, Baby Driver is still in 680. They've both had some solid legs this season and have been trickling out of theaters pretty slowly. Kind of impressed Guardians 2 is still in nearly 200 theaters as well.

Our local arthouse brought Baby Driver back last weekend as a double feature with Logan Lucky.

I assume early/mid September, probably since there isn't much coming out so lot of screens are freed up.

BTW, both WW and BD got screen boosts. Otherwise, what a snooze for the weekend. Good thing It comes out next week, looking at ~$60M.

i'm really surprised that THB made it's production budget back. thought this would be a total flop. good for it. sux about Logan Lucky though. it might make a buck in the end, but should have done better. so good...
