Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Yeah Lego should do well tomorrow, as it was a great movie. Wick is good counter programming.
My wife wants to skip Darker, since she didnt like the original. (but did like the books)

Still, I doubt 50 Shades will cross $100M domestically. After Tuesday it'll fall off a cliff.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
I'm sure there's some, I'm just saying that I wouldn't expect a kids movie to open nearly as big on a Thursday night in February as it might on a Thursday night in July.
Also, I'm sure you get a lot of kids at 7 or 8 PM, but these Thursday openings often run late into the night, so I'm sure it's a lot easier to get Adult women in the theater for 9PM or later screenings on Thursday night than it is to get kids

In otherwords, I agree it won't crack $100m.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Based off manatees:
LEGO Batman: $65m weekend, $17m Friday
Fifty Shades: $40m+ weekend, about $18m - $20m Friday
John Wick Dos: High $20m - low $30m weekend, about $11m - $12m Friday
The LEGO Batman movie hooking $65M for the weekend with $17M today. There are some who think LEGO Batman can even do much higher as this weekend clicks along
Universal’s Fifty Shades Darker looks to file an estimated $18M-$20M on its way to a low $40M weekend. How frontloaded Friday is, is the question as the sequel lacks Valentine’s Day on Saturday, but will make up for it on Tuesday when advance ticket sales kick in.
Lionsgate/Summit’s John Wick: Chapter 2 is all fired up, with an estimated $11M-$12M Friday for a high $20M weekend, possibly cracking $30M.

Also worth mentioning again is just how well Split, Hidden Figures and La La Land are doing.

50 Shades did better than expected, but I do wonder if it's overestimated.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
That's a nice take for the top 3 movies.
Hopefully I'll get to see John Wick on Wednesday on my day off.
I'm also interested in Lego Batman, that looks fun.
I did see Fifty Shades of Grey and I guess I'll see Darker too, but probably not right away.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has made over $230M worldwide.
While it was a stateside dud, it probably made enough money for another sequel. It's done really well in China apparently. I'm guessing if another movie gets made, the Chinese would help finance it.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Earliest estimates based on 7:00 pm + matinees:
The Lego Batman Movie $6m Friday, $31M FSS, $39.5M 4-day
Fifty Shades Darker $4.5m FRiday, $16M+ FSS, $19.5M 4-day
The Great Wall $5.5m Friday., $15.6m FSS, $18.2m 4-Day
Fist Fight $4.25m Friday, $13.2m FSS, $15m 4-day
John Wick $3.25m Friday, $11m FSS, $13.5m FSSM
A Cure for Wellness $2.25M Friday, $9M for the 4 day
John Wick seems low to me considering its mid-week performance, but we'll see. At this point last week they had Wick pulling low $20s instead of $30m. Other sites are estimating closer to $17m.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
It's already at $91m as of today, so it will easily hit that. I absolutely hate when people support this type of garbage.

Weekend Box Office 2/24 - 2/26/17:
>
Excellent performances by Get Out, The Batman Lego Movie, John Wick, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Split, Lion, A Dog's Purpose, Fences and Manchester by the Sea. Fifty Shades Darker is doing much better than I expected.
I'm actually kind of impressed at how well The Great Wall is doing as well. Arrival cracked $100m last week, and it looks like Passengers will end just shy of that (~$99.5m-ish). Fist Fight also had a respectable hold.
