Banshee Chapter (2014) S: Katia Winter, Ted Levine

Has anyone seen this? It came out early last year and it's now on Netflix. It's a modern update of the H.P. Lovecraft story "From Beyond", but much less campy than the Stuart Gordon adaptation.

It's very well done, with the scares revolving around a "numbers station", a low range radio station used in spycraft. The director smartly shows very little and suggests a lot, letting your imagination take over and making the film much scarier than it would have been otherwise.

Ted Levine is a total scene stealer in this, his performance alone is worth the price of admission.

For anyone who has seen it, the only thing that didn't make sense to me was the last minute of the film:

Spoiler:
Anne discovers that DMT-19 can be transferred by touch, so people who haven't ingested the chemical can still be affected if they touch people who have, which is why Anne's co-worker is possessed after she touches Anne, who touched Callie and Levine's character. However, they ALSO go on to reveal that Levine's character was a test subject of the MKUltra project, but has had his memory erased. What is the significance of making him an original test subject? It seems to have no bearing on the story except to throw in an additional twist for no reason. Levine's character clearly isn't possessed, and it seems like he hadn't infected anyone else with DMT-19 despite having it in his system. It's not just a pointless inclusion, it seems to deliberately contradict the revelation from mere moments before

I highly recommend this movie, it's very eerie and effective.
