Movie has just been added to Amazon Prime Video. Didn't want to pay for it, but I'll check it out sometime for free.

Re: Bone Tomahawk (2015, Kurt Russell western)

Just saw this and I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. It has the kind of writing I love where each scene has a cause/effect relationship with the next one so they're all essential to tell the perfect story. And it is that rare kind of movie that suddenly switches gears and effectively turns into a completely different genre. It's what you get when you combine...
Spoiler:
The Searchers with Apocalypto
Amazed this is the first we've seen from this writer/director and can't believe this didn't get a wide theatrical release.

Re: Bone Tomahawk (2015, Kurt Russell western)

Just seen this as well and was staggered by it. All I knew going in was Kurt Russell and a western setting. I think that helped as the plot developments came as genuine surprises as did the savage change of tone.

Even though I watched this in 2016 I think this gets my personal award for best of 2015. My god, what a film.

The pace is very deliberate but effective in building up empathy for the characters and their respective fates all make sense and arise naturally from the storytelling.

Very impressed all round and will keep an eye out for anything more from this director.

Re: Bone Tomahawk (2015, Kurt Russell western)

Jesus. FINALLY made time to see this. One of the best of 2015 for sure.

Had balls to make it as blunt as it could but also keep that cynical/real life humor that we sometimes survive on.

Goes places you didn't think it would. It'll tease you into that this will happen on how we've been taught by structure. But it doesn't. Cuz life ain't that coincidental. Loved it cuz it just kept all these surprise happen.

Brutal as fuck film. Great acting.

It's been said before but if you got Prime. Watch this film. It's totally worth it.

Fuck. Hell of a way to go for any of those characters.

also....

Spoiler:
The women in that cave. Jesus. I KIND of imagined it already when Mrs. O'Dwyer mentions them but seeing them it just hits home how ruthless these fuckers were. And I'm going to guess that she was next in line for that. Not sure how I felt about them not offing them. Granted...they just wanted to leave after all that hell too.

Rent this from Netflix and thought it's was a fine western. Yes there was some gory scene. I loved Jenkins character, I thought he had some funny dialogue, that one scene
Spoiler:

The Blu-ray includes the director/writer on the special features. Apparently he only went into directing because he got frustrated that none of his screenplays were being made into movies. He was initially a cinematographer. Apparently he had written and been paid for something like 20 horror scripts before Bone Tomahawk, none of which have actually been made.

I think Kurt Russell's presence got this movie made. He seems to have been a big fan of the script and project.

Yeah, Russell became involved after he read the director's western novels. He actually endorses him on the covers.

His script based on one of his novels was bought by Warners a while back and Leo and Jamie Foxx were to star. I wonder if it'll still happen. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...-reteam-576581

I fucking said that shit a few pages back.

Not only westerns - there's a sic-fi novel and a crime novel I think DiCaprio bought the rights to the crime novel if I remember correctly.

Dude is also a drummer in a death metal band.

Just watched this last night, and it was indeed excellent. The only thing that bothered me was
Spoiler:
they left the town completely exposed. They had no way of knowing if any of the savages were still in the area or not, yet they seemingly took all of the useful fighters on the hunting party.

I know, but they also made a pretty good point early on that Kurt Russell was a pretty strict lawman, and that there wasn't a lot of "action" in the town. Anyway, I acknowledge that it's just a nitpick, and overall the movie was excellent.

Saw it again today, at a micro-theater.

Sheriff Hunt tells the mayor to send a request for more deputies to keep an eye on the town while they're on the mission.

Finally got to see this one and really liked it. The writing and the direction were very good. Incredible what they did for less than $2 million.
If someone told me that it cost $20 million to make, I would have believed it.

4/5

Fuck. I want to see this again. It just... felt so real. Even w/ the crazy aspect of it in there. Just so fucking brutal and emotionally honest characters.

Fuck. I need to buy this bitch.

They filmed like where they filmed MASH and shit. Did a great job making it seem like the wilderness when it was just on a movie farm. Even used standing sets. Like old school B westerns.

Re: Bone Tomahawk (2015, Kurt Russell western)

Robert Rodriguez and Eli Roth couldn't do something even half as good with ten times the budget.
