Most disappointing movie?
The Hobbit.
Went to see this in IMAX 3D and it was just a bad experience. Too overwhelming maybe. Was so hyped. Took off work and was so disappointed.

Inane thread master strikes again.
The one and only correct answer to most disappointing movie is Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. There are no other possible correct answers or opinions. In this case, any other opinion would be factually wrong.

yup. Phantom Menace.
or maybe now that I think about it... Attack of the Clones, because I was almost certain Lucas was going to listen to the hordes of disappointed fans and address a lot of the glaring issues of the first movie and alas.... he did not.

Re: Most disappointing movie?
My personal picks:
-I was anxiously looking forward to seeing Hitchcock and the movie turned out to be completely unengaging and banal.
-I'd heard nothing but good things about The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for a year or two before it played at the local art theatre. I even invited a friend to come along with me and felt embarrassed when the movie turned out to be so shitty.
-The trailer for Lords of Salem were so atmospheric and visually interested, but the actually movie never quite took off the ground and felt like it ended way too early. One of the very few times I felt like a movie needed to be longer.

Have you seen it on Blu-ray since theaters? I think it's Zombie's best film and that's saying a lot, because I don't like any of his films. I think it was him aping Jodorowsky.

I'll agree with the Hobbit. Saw it in the fancy HFR nonsense. It was nauseating. The movie was much better on BD.
Phantom Menace is a given. Camped out and saw it opening night. It was so exciting I fell asleep on it.
I'll add Furious 7. I was looking forward to that more than anything else this year. Coming off of the awesomeness of 5 & 6, how could you lose? I was just pumped. The series has always been over the top but unfortunately they amped up the stupid to 11. Still had some decent set pieces and was worth the price for the last 10 or so minutes.

Re: Most disappointing movie?
Was anyone really expecting The Hobbit to be that great, though, especially when we heard it was going to be three movies? I wanted to go back to Middle-earth, but my expectations were fairly muted.

I remember being real hyped for Danny The Dog (I even forgot what the U.S. title was) The team (Jet,Morgan,Massive Attack,Yuen Woo Ping) and concept sounded like it could do no wrong. Instead, the movie ended up being mediocre as hell.
Shadow of the Vampire was another big disappointment for me. Again, another great team and concept, but I don't remember anything from it.

Star Wars - I was looking forward to seeing this so much...the feeling of disappointment coming out of the theater was crushing.

Django Unchained.
This was the first movie that popped into mind when I read the thread topic. There was so many things that I liked about it but it was ultimately disappointing. IMO Tarantino's worst movie (Death Proof barely edges it out). I hope Hateful Eight will be the Tarantino Western I've been waiting for.

Blair Witch Project- great concept, but horrible execution (why did they waste so much film recording themselves arguing?)

I told people in the Spring of 1999 that Eyes Wide Shut was going to be for me what the upcoming Phantom Menace was for most other movie goers. At this time I meant that it was my most anticipated movie watching experience in a decade. Turns out I was right for the wrong reasons.

(Personally, I found the original Swede version to be OK but a bit disappointing, while I think the American remake was excellent and much superior to the original. BTW, I never read the book.)

Didn't we get a slightly cut version of it?

I loved KILL BILL VOL. 1 and saw it four times on the big screen. Then I was horribly disappointed by KILL BILL VOL. 2.
