No, but it's something they can do that looks good on the surface, and give people the illusion of security, but really doesn't do anything except stopping those sneaking in snacks.

Oh no!
My manbag usually just has bottled water, phone and sunglasses case.... Surely they won't bitch about the bottled water... I still buy the soda and popcorn most of the time.

Are they having security doing the inspections? My daughter worked box office at the theater when she was a teen and I can't picture her or any other 16 year old confronting people with a weapon in their bag. The local Cinemark has utilized off-duty police as security personnel on weekends on and off for years
