Room is a drama film about a woman being held captive with her five-year-old son in a single small room for years. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on the novel of the same name by Donoghue. The film stars Brie Larson, Joan Allen, William H. Macy, Sean Bridgers and Jacob Tremblay. The film is scheduled to be released in a limited release on October 16, 2015, before being released nationwide on November 6, 2015, by A24 Films.
From the director of Frank.
Looks good. I love Brie Larson. Maybe this will give her more award attention then she rightfully deserved for Short Term 12.

I've been listening to the audiobook. It was hard to get used to the kid narrator at first (still not sure if it's an actual kid doing the voice, or an adult doing a kid's voice, but no matter...), but I'm over it now, and the book is great so far. I should be able to finish it up before I get to see it at my local film fest in 2 weeks.

I wonder if there was ever a discussion of changing the title due to people mistaking this for The Room, the notorious "worst film ever made".

knew nothing about this movie but initial buzz seems to be very strong
I watched the trailer which appears to give away a key plot point so you may want to avoid if you want to go in totally blind

YES, avoid the trailers at all costs. Seriously. It's super disappointing how blatantly they show things that may not be obvious bits of the story otherwise.
The movie is great, but although the original author also wrote the screenplay, there are LOTS of minor changes that add up, and I greatly preferred the book's version of those events and details.

If you mean the kid... yea... the kid was really good... but I'm not really a fan of children getting nominated for awards. In my opinion, I feel when kid's are that young, the performance actually really hinders on the director getting what they need from the child.

Yea sad I had to go what 5 pages deep into the movie thread to even find this post.
Best movie of the year I've seen so far. Just outstanding. I've dug Brie for a long time and man she knocked it out of the park here, and the kid is just gold too. Just WOW.

I thought that this was very well done. Been meaning to read the book for a couple years - and wanted to before seeing the film... but I gave in and just watched the film instead.
I liked Brie Larson for a while, and she was great in this. Jacob Tremblay was fantastic - which is hard for me to say about kid actors. They both deserve Oscar nods.
Always happy to see Canadian films be well received.

What an incredible movie. Brie Larson should have had an Oscar like yesterday. Between This and Short Term 12 She is on another level than some other good actors working today. My jaw was on the floor at moments throughout this. Cannot recommend this movie enough. IMO, this is definitely one of the best movies this year, if not the best.

Yep, saw this around Thanksgiving. Great movie. It hit me really hard.
You already mentioned all the acting, but the direction was great too. Not showy, of course, but you can see what a great director can do with a confined space.
