You're free to do anything you like, but I was talking about canon as defined by the owners of the franchise. Disney seems to be running a tighter ship with the new EU than GL ever did. I get the impression that the old EU wasn't ever that tightly controlled or respected by Lucas.

Carrie Fisher won’t appear in “Star Wars: Episode IX,” after all.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made the reveal during an interview with ABC News on Friday at the “Star Wars Celebration” in Orlando.
“Sadly, Carrie will not be in ‘Nine,'” Kennedy said. “But we will see a lot of Carrie in ‘Eight.'”
Actor Todd Fisher, the late actress’ brother and Debbie Reynolds’ son, had said that his sister had a role in the ninth installment.
“[Todd Fisher] was probably confused because we finished everything in ‘Eight,’ and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. We’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away,” Kennedy said.
“By the time we were well underway with ‘Episode Nine’ in our thoughts — we had not written the script yet — we’ve regrouped, we started over again in January,” she added.
Fisher died last December at age 60. She returned to the franchise in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and will appear in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

I'm glad that they are going this route. First that means there is NO chance of CGI Leia which I absolutely disdain in R1. And she will now get a proper send off in TLJ as we all know this will be last time Carrie Fisher will be on screen in a SW movie.

I thought this might be the case (in Todd Fisher ONLY referring to The Last Jedi). It was just odd the article stated that he and her daughter Billie granted the studio rights to include Leia in IX. It did seem a little suspect that they never had a direct quote from him on that point. Ah, well... probably for the best.

I thought the CG Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One looked good personally but I can see not doing it in the new film out of respect. I'm glad they're not recasting too.

They're dead set on getting one of these Star Wars films out in May. Both Episode VII and VIII originally had May release dates.

'Star Wars: Episode IX' Gets a New Writer (Exclusive)
Jack Thorne, the British scribe who wrote the upcoming Julia Roberts-Jacob Tremblay movie Wonder, has been tapped to work on the Star Wars installment that is to be directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly wrote the most recent draft of the script and were initially working off a treatment by Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth installment of the sci-fi fantasy that opens December 15.
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are expected to return – but you never know who a Star Wars movie may kill off so don’t get too comfortable – with the installment eyeing a production start in January 2018.
The movie has a release date of May 24, 2019.
Thorne is the creator or co-creator of several British television shows, dramas and thrillers, including The Fades, The Cast-Offs, The Last Panthers and National Treasure.
While those don’t sound like the Star Wars wheelhouse, writing on these two more recent programs bring him closer: His Dark Materials, BBC’s adaptation of the fantasy by Philip Pullman, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Sheep for Channel 4.
He is repped by UTA.

Good grief... what in the world is going on over there. Apparently it was script issues...
Rian, feel like staying on SW for a few more years?

Good! Trevorrow is a shit director.
Would be sweet if they got Spielberg, he's said he'd like to direct a SW movie.
