There hasn't been a Terminator film worth existing since T2. That's my issue. All 3 after that? Waste of a property. T4 at least was alright as an action. T3 pushes my patience in its flaws. T5 is neat cuz it actually plays around with the property but it's insanely dumbed down to generic values.

T3 had a cool ending, but everything else post-T2 is meh. The Sarah Conner Chronicles is the only worthy follow-up.

So it was a flop in Japan.
T3 earned 67M there.

From Dark Horizons:
After the failure of "Terminator Genisys" at the U.S. domestic box-office earlier this year, it looked like proposed plans for two more "Terminator" films and a potential TV series spin-off were put on the scrap heap.
Then came the strong international box-office figures for the film, including robust business in China, which seemed to stir talk that the sequels could well proceed.
Now though THR reports that despite the $440 million worldwide haul, "Terminator Genisys" will still lose money and their sources say: "the notion of a 'Terminator' universe is on hold indefinitely."
'Genisys' grossed a mere $89 million domestically in the United States. Sporting a $150 million production budget, not to mention marketing and distribution costs of a similar number, the news does not come as a huge surprise.

Finally saw this, and it is easily the best post-T2 Terminator film. By a wide margin.

That's how I felt too.
T1 and T2 are action movies from the 80's and 90's - which died out in the early to mid 90's. That Cannon/Lethal Weapon/Die Hard era of smokey sets and brutal violence. They showed us new and fascinating fx.
Filmmaking is different now. And Terminator Genisys is a direct reflection of current sci-fi action films.
I think that there's potential to make a great Terminator film to end the series. But who knows if we'll ever get it (or if we should get it).

I remember reading about the premise for this movie and it sounded like a good idea to go full circle and reboot and largely recast. Star Trek did something similar and it really worked there. Then i actually saw the movie. What a shitfest. Jai Courtney is very lucky that most of the movies he appears in make money, as he is always atrocious. He was passable in Reacher, but the role did not call for a high class caliber actor. Same thing for Jason Clarke. I can see the guy has some potential, but he appears in a lot of bad movies. Emilia Clarke is just a horrible actress. Got a career from flashing her bits on the TV show, but she is just soooooooo wrong as Sarah Conner.
Even as bad as this movie was, it was still better than the last two terminator movies. But the only way i would give a damn about another movie in this franchise is if Cameron came back to it. I know the rights go back to him in the not too distant future, but i doubt he will ever return to this franchise. A shame as i always wanted to see another Terminator movie and True Lies from him. Arnie is too old for either of them now anyway.

For pure entertainment, popcorn movie quality I enjoyed watching it. But yeah, they lacked ideas and I'm confused how they'll do more.

I don't think they ever explained that. That'll probably be the story of the next sequel.

A mediocre movie.
If James Cameron comes back to the franchise then it will be worth seeing another Terminator movie but no more sequels please!
