Sam Elliot sounds fcking awesome. The voice of the main dino, though, not so much; something seems off with it.

(basically, cartoony character design against near photorealistic environment.)
oh, and looks like the group of t-rex are cowboys/cattle-ranchers, which makes sam elliott being one of their voices even more awesome

The kid as a dog is great.

They always have The Disney Channel on at my kid's gymnastics class waiting area. They were running ads and promotions for it non-stop (The Disney Channel is unique in that all the ads are just for Disney Channel and other Disney things). Maybe they're trying a direct-to-kids approach. Not a bad idea since the more I see of this movie, the less appealing it seems to me.

One of the production directors came to our school a few weeks ago and gave us an in-depth preview of the movie and talked about some behind-the-scenes stuff. It is true that the T Rex's our cattle ranchers… But to add a level of awesomeness beyond Sam Elliot's voice, these dinosaurs do not run. They gallop. The other two T-Rex characters are voiced by Anna Paquin and a AC Brooks. in my opinion, the best voice casting of a trio since the hyenas in The Lion King.

IGN's review made it sound like it was good but nothing new that we haven't seen before.

I can't tell if it's genius or suicide for Pixar to release two movies so close together. Inside Out may be the best thing they've ever done, which could generate a lot of goodwill for this movie, or it could mean a lot of people are at home rewatching Inside Out on BD.

I watched a 15-minutes preview of two scenes and a small trailer down at Disney World and this looks mind numbing; the two scenes felt like an eternity and the overall style is unappealing.

I thought it was fine. The movie seemed short, as in, it seems like there should have been another scene. The scenery looked so realistic at times. Peripheral characters were passer-bys and forgettable. Spot was the scene stealer. Despite its flaws, eyes welled up at the end. Not a homerun; closer to average.

Totally agree. I enjoyed it more than it deserved, but it wasn't phenomenal or anything. For me, it was the least-Pixar Pixar movie yet.
Had a big lump in my throat for the last 20 minutes or so, though.

The scenery was amazing - truly photorealistic. The water alone was breathtaking. I enjoyed the film but agree it felt a bit second tier, especially coming off Inside Out.

Finally saw this on a plane ride home... this might have eclipsed Cars 2 as my least favorite Pixar movie. Pretty environments, but hated the character designs, the plot was boring and typical, and the side characters were annoying or pointless. Also for a kid's movie, it was a little shocking at the violence; I get predators/prey and the time frame their in, but something like say Finding Nemo handled that sort of thing much more gracefully.

Finally saw this today, home sick with the flu for a few days and catching up on a backlog of movies. Was this supposed to be a direct to video? I really did not like it very much...

I didn't bother with Cars 2, but I'm assuming that would be bottom of the Pixar barrel, this one I'd place 2nd to last. It was OK, very much below average for Pixar though. Everything felt really generic...
I just revisited Land Before Time a few weeks ago - if they had made a CG equivalent of that, it would've been a home run. As it is, nothing feels 'prehistoric' about the environments, the character designs were too 'blah'... the 'home on the range' vibe didn't work for me. If they were going to do Dinosaurs in the modern day - do it in the city, like Zootopia, etc. Or do a bad ass Land Before Time, with scary T-Rex's.
