The Fate of the Furious (Fast 8) (4/14/17, D: F. Gary Gray) - News, rumors, etc.

It's inevitable that this going to happen, so let's keep all the talk about the upcoming film here.

What do we know so far?

- The potential setting will be in NYC, Kurt Russell would return: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/03/31...k-jimmy-kimmel

- Lucas Black signed a 3 picture deal, so will most likely return: http://www.thewrap.com/universal-rev...r-lucas-black/

- Rumors of other past roles coming back into play: http://screenrant.com/fast-furious-8...endes-fuentes/

It's a tricky situation. There's no reason for her to be involved if Brian isn't. And they no longer can involve Brian. It sucks for her because she's been involved from the beginning, and they're steady paychecks. But yea... she serves no purpose anymore. The most they could do is a cameo with her having a phone call with Dom, but its unnecessary. Her story is now done.

To be fair, she was a non-factor in #7 and was used minimally until the end in #6.

The next one is in Manhattan right? She could always get held captive, or something.

"Just visiting my Aunt!" "Oh shit, bank robbers with sick driving skills! Not this shit again!"

The next one should cross over with the Jurassic Park franchise, have Dom and company (w/ Chris Pratt as their newest member) chasing down a T-Rex.

I don't have an issue with Jordana and think she's attractive, but agree there's no reason to include her. I'd like her and Brian to live happily ever after and be done with their story. I'd like to see Black back, Eva Mendes, and keep Nathalie.

I mentioned before that they've lost a lot of the endearing characters that made the movies charming for me, so keeping familiar faces would be a very good thing.

I don't mind Brewster. She is Dom's sister, so no reason to kick her to the curb completely. If anything I see her role expanding while Brian "stays home with the kids."

Ever since the tease at the end of Fast Five, I've been looking forward to her return.

Re: Fast and Furious 8 - News, rumors, casting, etc.

With Lucas Black being one of the leads on NCIS New Orleans, they are going to have to work around his schedule. He signed on to Part 7 before he was cast & shot the Pilot for NCIS NOLA.

He would only be available for roughly 3 months before he has to go back to work for the show, which shoots in New Orleans. I think it really depends on how big and important Sean Boswell's role is in the next movie.

Do they continue with the Statham story or maybe go back with the Carter Verone story.
Out of prison somehow. It would be a way to bring back Eva Mendes.

Eh I dunno. I think it would be for the best to leave her out or minimize her role considerably. It'll be hard to conveniently find a way to have Brian not there now each time that she would show up and there's no way for that situation to be resolved. She's Dom's sister so I wouldn't have a problem if she's acknowledged now and again but I don't think she should have a big part in future films.

Re: Fast and Furious 8 - News, rumors, casting, etc.

I just watched 2 yesterday and thought it would be decent idea if they brought back Carter to cash in on the "you know when he gets out of jail, he's going to kill you" line Brian gave Roman. Maybe one day... but I don't think the smartest move would be to retread on past story lines in the next one.

I would love for Verone to return but it'd be weird for Brian not to return if Verone is back.

And if 9 is to be the end of the franchise, I wonder if they have any more deleted Paul Walker footage they could use to incorporate Brian in the final scene of the series.

But with modern technology, we can still make this scene a reality!

Re: Fast and Furious 8 - News, rumors, casting, etc.

"As Brian's tongue Tokyo Drifts into Dom's mouth."

(Oh wait:

"Here we go: "Interior, garage, night.
"Dom stands behind a bent-over Brian, "and Tokyo drifts into his" Oh, that, okay, that scene goes on for like ten more pages.
Dudes, this script is full of extremely graphic gay sex scenes.
What do you expect? The whole lifestyle's fast and furious, with the pills and the disco and the tank tops-- ohh."

Wrong scene but close enough.)

I tried to embed the clip but it seems Youtube pulled all traces of it.

According to this new article, Universal now wants to make 10 movies

None of the cast is signed for the next movie.

No writer has been officially hired, although it's likely they will go to Chris Morgan again.

No director is attached either. James Wan originally signed a 2 film deal, but Universal let him out of his contract after he wrapped 7.

Re: Fast and Furious 8 - News, rumors, casting, etc.

He asked to get out of the two picture deal so he could go do The Conjuring 2. I think Wan, overall, is just more comfortable with low to mid budget film making.
