Tail seems long. Other than that, I'm cool. Even though I knew to expect it, seeing a new movie coming out showing a guy in an obvious rubber suit took me by surprise. I'm happy they are still going that route.

Like the Tenth Doctor's hand becoming the Meta-Crisis Doctor? That would be utterly fantastic.

But I did like it, I don't mind him looking a little different, there's been so many variations over the years, and the small arms help move away from the man-in-suit aesthetic and more towards how a mutated creature would actually look.

Not sure what other complaints you heard but for me...the design looks like the typical rubbery somewhat cartoonlike design TOHO has given us on and off since the 70's. The eyes are static, there is no expression in the face, and while it's an "ok" design...it leans towards "meh".

Ok...what's your point? Did I say it didn't look like Godzilla? No. But hey, if just looking like Godzilla is good enough for you then that's cool.

I will agree he looks like he's in serious pain and scarred which is interesting and makes sense if the stages thing is true. But I still think TOHO could have done better. We have always given TOHO a "pass" on shitty looking sfx because, well, it's TOHO Monsters and we want "TOHO Monster SMASH!". On your other point, we will agree to disagree.

I'm skeptical that Toho can pull off convincing effects that will come close to the Gareth Edwards version, however, it's great to see this film going back to the somber, dramatic tone of the original film. I will definitely check it out, but I'm more excited about Edwards eventual sequel.

I don't mind his look, but Godzilla wasn't doing a whole lot of moving in that trailer. He kinda looked like a statue. Overall, I thought the trailer was kind of "meh."

I gotta think something will get hashed out by July. Toho would be leaving millions on the table (I could see the film doing a few million here, at least), so this doesn't make much sense.

All I know is I plan on seeing the film as soon as possible, however possible.

I have a VHS copy of GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER, AIP version.

As for the new Toho Godzilla, I know that my local Japanese video store will eventually get it, sans subs, of course.

Yeah, I have them on VHS too. I'd like them on DVD/BD, but apparently the legal issues with that render it nigh-on impossible.
