Re: Kung Fury
Needed more from Barbarianna but otherwise I loved it. I was surprised it wasn't feature length.

Re: Kung Fury
Jesus. This is amazing.
EDIT: They changed the actress for Katana. I thought the gal in the trailer looked better than the one they ended up with.

Didn't look at any of the trailers, so I was expecting more of a Samurai Cop vibe. But this was still fun.
I thought Canadians only did this kinda stuff (Hobo/Shotgun,Manborg,Father's Day) so I was real surprised to find out that this is Swedish.
And seeing "VCR-Tracking" moments in action films is much cooler than "VCR-Tracking" moments in horror films.

I hope they release this on DVD and VHS. I don't know how long this 80s nostalgia vibe is going to last but I'm enjoying it. When I get time I'm going to get this soundtrack for this movie. Besides Hasselhoff it features Mitch Murder, Betamaxx and others.

Re: Kung Fury
6 minutes in, the police chief mentions Viagra.
Viagra didn't exist in 1985. Suspension of disbelief has now been ruined.
(And I was so into the movie before that.)

I hope for a long time to come. Because 90s Nostalgia just doesn't sound as much fun--the 90s are too much like now.

I enjoyed it. Some good laughs. I don't think a feature length movie would've worked though, even at 30 minutes, I felt it started to run out of steam at the end.

Re: Kung Fury
So... people are stoked on this? Like, legitimately and not ironically?
It's terrible. Terrible in the same way HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN or the MACHETE series is; filmmakers who missed that the '80s films they're cribbing from weren't done with tongue jammed into cheek. Stop trying so hard to wedge your nostalgic memories into every frame. The only people doing these throwback movies right are the others who shoot them straight, not as a laughably bad pastiche.

There's a lot of music out there heavily inspired by the synth-sound of that era, and tons of throwback music like Lazerhawk, Mitch Murder, Glass Candy, Chromatics, etc.

Thinking about the cliches of 80s films, in particular action films, I wonder if Last Action Hero would have been better received if it had been set in the 1980s.
What modern 80s styled movies are done right in your opinion?

Re: Kung Fury
I agree on Black Dynamite, although the second half veers too far into parody territory.
House of the Devil is a great example. Almost Human is another.
Really, there aren't many because most of the films that set out to emulate an '80s production style and aesthetic often do so with the mindset of guys like Rodriguez, who seem to forget what made those films so fun to begin with.
