magical, wonderful, lovely, whimsical. what a great movie this time of year. the performances were stellar. the dance and musical numbers perfect. the opening, grand. harkens back to movie-making of old. just loved this one.

My favorite movie of 2016 and now one of my favorite movies, period. I love old Hollywood and Gene Kelly movies. This easily met my high expectations for the follow-up to Whiplash, which is also one of my favorites.

Seriously, what's up with the Rolling Stone cover. I get the idea behind the sexy Emma Stone picture, but that byline?
A Star Is Born? Emma's been a star for over a decade. This isn't like Bree Larson who was largely an unknown before Room and Trainwreck hit in 2015. Emma's been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Best Picture winner, she had the lead role in another Best Picture nominee, she's been in two Spider-Man movies. Jim Carrey proposed to her on You Tube. She's been famous for over a decade now. What a stupid thing to put in your headline.

Right. I think she stands out in everything she does. Certainly in Superbad.
Edit: Look at someone like Charlize Theron. She was in many films early in her career that garnered recognition. I'm sure many people were aware of her, but once Monster happened... she was huge.

She is awesome, even in Superbad she made and impression on me. Damn the whole cast on that movie was great

While I don't disagree with the sentiment at all and am a huge fan of hers going back to the TV show Drive... this is really her first LEADING performance that is getting a lot of attention. She is has been in a lot of films that have garnered awards or recognition, but not as the star. Easy A is really the only film where she is the lead front and center... but that wasn't an Oscar caliber role. The Help had a huge cast with many roles recognized. Crazy, Stupid, Love had many roles. Spider-Man was supporting. The Woody Allen stuff I would say she is the lead in the same way she is sharing it with Gosling in this, but that is for a particular crowd. Birdman was supporting.

Guess we'll see by how well Cruella opens, but since that's live action Disney it had an audience built in. Battle of the Sexes perhaps, though Tennis biopics are a tough sell no matter whose opening it.

Now that you mention that, me neither. I should have just said "Tennis" is a tough sale.
Two come out this year, one with Stone in the lead (as Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes, with Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs ) and one with LaBeouf in the lead (as John McEnroe in Borg, this one is coming from the Swedes)

Stone as Billie Jean King? Wonder how that's going to work. LaBeouf is hated by many, so playing McEnroe seems fitting.
