There was a 4 hour documentary on it a few decades ago.

Mitchell: It seems like the response has been very strong at this point, but any specifics [about sequels] — that, I couldn't say. I have a lot of different kinds of projects in many different genres, so I don't know that a sequel would be the next thing that I would do, but I'm certainly open to it. I just kinda want to see how things play out. But I do want to say that when I wrote this, I had some bigger setpieces, a few things that I sort of simplified, and some stuff that we chose to cut out because of the budget and time, so there's all kinds of fun things that could be done with this concept and story.

I'm happy to see he changed is mind. I doubt anything could be added that would enhance this world, and I'd hate to see it turn into another Paranormal Activity franchise.

Yup! As CharlieK said, that scene was devastating because within Jay as a character, the desperation levels were getting ridiculously high (more than they already had been).

I definitely wouldn't want a sequel to this.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe

Saw it, really enjoyed it. Random things I wondered about...

Spoiler:
1. What happens if you have sex with multiple people before it kills the first one? Does the chain not count those later lays, or would it switch to the second (or last) person you screwed?

2. It seemed to me (at least mostly) bound by real world physics. It had to break through physical barriers like doors and windows. Could it not be trapped somehow and locked into a box/cage of some sort, buried, covered with concrete? Granted, this isn't exactly easy for a bunch of young kids to figure out, but screw a few construction workers...

3. Since it existed as a physical being to even the ones who couldn't see it, I wonder if she could have just bought a bunch of spray paint and 'tagged' it so everyone could see it? And if so, would that all go away once it changed forms?

I actually had this same thought...
Spoiler:
Hop a flight to Bangkok and screw some prostitute that specializes in international travelers. Then, make friends with another American tourist while you're there and treat him to a round with her, then the next night take him to a different prostitute (just don't bang her afterwards).

It would have to walk across the ocean to Bangkok, then walk back to the US, then go back to Bangkok, then come back before you'd be in danger again. And if you kept in touch with the guy and he died, you'd know that It would still have to go all the way back to Bangkok and kill the first hooker... unless she died some other way along the way. The good thing is she might end up continuously screwing new guys and it may not even get to her, especially if she throws in some Europeans or Antarcticans or something.

I would love to go to a Q&A with the filmmakers and ask this.

I just ended up assuming she had broken the pool when she jumped out her window

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe

Just saw it this morning at a $5 matinee, which was basically a private screening as I was the only one there.

Loved it.

Just a stellar creepy vibe all the way through without having to rely on lame CGI effects all over the place. As others have said Monroe was excellent, but I liked that her and the rest of the cast acted/responded/spoke (99.9% of the time) like people their age, and I never felt I was watching 30 year olds trying to play "young".

Plus, the score was Carpenter-tastic...

Spoiler:
Any thoughts on why they watched the old movies with no sound on?

Can't remember if there was no sound, but worth noting that they were all movies in the public domain, for budget constraints. Charade being the most telling example.

For me, those movies just added to the unstuck in time feeling of the whole movie.

That struck me as really weird.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe

Really liked this movie. The 80-90s look to it made it even creepier for some reason. Some mixed feelings about the ending though. Can an ending be too ambiguous?

Spoiler:
Did Paul(?) sleep with a hooker to pass the curse on? Did Jay sleep with one (or all) of those guys on the boat? Is the person walking behind them at the end a real person?

As for people's ideas of taking a flight to escape It, I think It would still show up. Jay and the gang take that long drive up north to the guy's cottage and It still shows up not too long afterwards.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe

Just saw it. Loved it. Want the soundtrack.

@Pointyskull: there was definitely sound during the B&W movies being watched.

While there is some ambiguity in parts, here's my take:

Spoiler:

1. Jay definitely had sex with the men in the boat.
2. The kids aren't sure if they killed It in the pool or not. I think they think they did, but the fact that Paul went out looking for hookers after having sex with Jay indicated that he felt the need to still take the next step.
3. The guy walking behind them at the end? We'll never know if that was It or not, unless a sequel decides to ham-fistedly spell it out for us. I liked that ending.

A couple of my own questions...

Spoiler:

1. Count me among those unclear about what happened to Jay's backyard pool.
2. After Jay had sex with the boy in the hospital (Greg), we see a scene of him chatting with three girls in a cafeteria. Am I assuming correctly that he passed the curse onto one of them, thus explaining his three days of not seeing It anywhere?

My only disappointment...

Spoiler:

That beach scene was awesome, but when Jay's hair went up the air, I immediately had a deja vu moment to both Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring, which threw me out of the movie briefly.

Pfft. Do it right and get the Vinyl:

Mostly because it's as time confusing as the rest of the movie

Wow, thank you! I just assumed this was low-budget enough not to warrant a soundtrack release.

Thank you! I too assumed it was too low budget to have a score, and was very sad about it because it was amazing.

Great movie. Still working out what I think it all meant, but nice to have a horror movie not beat you over the head with everything. Loved the lead actress, hope to see her in lots more projects.

Re: It Follows (2014, D: David Robert Mitchell) S: Maika Monroe

I saw this last week and really enjoyed it. It was stylish, creepy and well done, and really unique.

The theatrical experience was memorable though, since the theater played the wrong movie at first! We sat through tons of trailers for Disney films both animated and live action and we all were wondering if we were in the right theater. Then the new Frozen short movie came on, and we saw about half of that, before the theater solved the problem and switched movies! They were about to show Cinderella, which was supposed to be playing in the auditorium across the hall from us. And I have to laugh, wondering if they were showing It Follows in that auditorium on accident, and what the families would think, since I can only imagine what trailers would air before the film. The plus side about this mistake, was we all got free tickets out of the deal. So it was win win all around.
