Upstream Color (2013) and Love (2011), and not in a good way. Hard to believe that the latter clocks in at only 84 minutes.

You can't expect to have a deep, thought provoking and life altering experience in 90 minutes.

Crouching Tiger would be in my top 40 all time movies but it feels like 50% longer than it is.

Gotcha. I watched Layer Cake on BD last month 4-5 times. Once a week or so.

In its 85-minute form, Death Proof is tolerable. In its 115-minute form, Death Proof is insufferable. While I own all the Grindhouse discs, I will never watch the two hour cut ever again.

However, I feel Inglourious Basterds flies by in its two-and-a-half hour runtime and Django Unchained only crawls down to a snails pace once Waltz's character leaves the picture and the film decides to have twenty endings too many.

Which version of DEATH PROOF was in GRINDHOUSE? I'm assuming the 85-minute version, which I would definitely say felt longer than it is. I can't imagine a 115-minute version of that.

At 85 minutes I only wanted to kill myself. At 115 I wanted to take people with me.

Re: Films which feel longer than they are.

Why does Death Proof bother so many people? Is it cuz its essentially female BS whereas we previously had had mostly Male BS?

I loved that film. In whatever form, but do agree the shorter one is best.

Re: Films which feel longer than they are.

Even though it was actually a pretty long movie, Blood In Blood Out was the longest 3 hours of my life. Whereas comparatively The Wolf of Wall Street was the shortest 3 hours of my life.

Most of these choices are long films anyway, I'm thinking of something fairly mean which still seems to never end. I was kind of struck by it because while no one agreed with me, I thought that the first Hobbit movie's three hours flew by, whereas the 97 minutes of Die Hard 5 never-ending. I saw the extended cut of Death Proof. Perhaps the shorter cut is better, the longer version I saw was endless.

This is a good one. I'd also add Funny People to that list. It felt like the movie should've been over by the time they got to Eric Bana's house but the movie went on for like another 90 minutes.

Death Proof is a great one. My ex (who I had seen it in theaters with at the time) referred to it as "the movie that wouldn't end." And this was the 85 minute version.

You think it's sexism? How about the fact that it's just a shitty movie. Kurt Russell, who is one of my favorite actors, could not save whatever it was going for. I"m a big Tarantino fan to boot but there's nothing about that film I could appreciate.

Only worth watching for Adele Exarchopoulos' performance which is great. The sex scenes although semi pornographic come across as exploitative and aren't all that. If the film were an hour shorter it would be excellent.

I don't really get all the hate for Death Proof either. It might be the weakest of Tarantino's films but that's not saying much considering his filmography is overall strong and a weak film by him is still better than half the crap that comes out.

But even by "general movie standards" it just isn't very good. As absurd and ridiculous as it was, Planet Terror was the far better companion piece of the two.

That's exactly why. It's a bunch of misogynistic mouth breathers that hate women.

I actually like the longer version - it amps up the creepiness factor in the extended prologue sequence Kurt Russell stalking them.

Psshhhh, Blood In Blood Out is great. It's even better if you're Mexican, grew up in the hood, and know fools that resemble the characters.

Nope. It's a boring, predictable chore. As for the sex scenes (really only one is a standout and, like the rest of the movie, it runs too long), if you feel you must see them, they're available online for free. No need to waste your time watching the movie.

Although I agree the film would definitely improve dramatically by excising an hour from its runtime, the problems also lie with the pedestrian script.

Given that a substantial number of your fellow DVD Talkers dislike the movie, do you really think it's fair to refer to us that way? I think you know us better than that.

Re: Films which feel longer than they are.

The Matrix sequels felt long as fuck. Especially that headache inducing battle of Zion in Revolutions.
