Re: The Avengers: Infinity War - Parts 1 & 2 - (5/4/18 & 5/3/19)
I am 100% sure that Joss Whedon just doesn't want to direct the two Infinity War films. He's been saying for a while that directing the MCU films is a lot of work and that he didn't want to spend the next five years of his life making them. He either wants to do other things, or maybe just take a break.
As he is someone who tends to speak out about issues he's had with his show biz work, I believe him on this.

Evans was talking to Esquire and had this to say:
"You know, you plan around the Marvel responsibilities. You have to. We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that. August or September. Then I've got some downtime and I can do with it as I please. I don't know if I want to take time off or go pursue another directing job or find a movie to act in or, you know, do whatever I'm creatively inclined to pursue or wait, relax, enjoy my life. And then we start the Infinity War, I think, some time in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That's going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back."

Speculation that it COULD happen at some point by how many movies we've known Evans was signed up for. And how Sebastian Stan's contract goes too. Didn't Stan have like 9 movies he could be in?

Evans is no dummy though. I think he will ride in the money train as long as he can work other projects at his will. That break between the Marvel shooting fits right into what he wanted. Perhaps the character is finished off during IW and Winter Soldier takes over for phase 4 into 5.
“Oh yeah, this was a big thing! I gotta watch what I say. I will absolutely clarify. I have a six-movie contract with Marvel and I absolutely plan on fulfilling them. This is without a doubt the biggest blessing in my life. Marvel has literally changed the game for me, and they make great movies. I did direct last year and it was a really fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it. So I’m certainly looking to do that a bit more, so when it comes to exploring other acting jobs I may not be as proactive in trying to find those, I may kind of stick with my Marvel universe in terms of getting in front of the camera, and then getting behind the camera outside of it.”

I'm surprised that Marvel hasn't offered Evans a chance at directing a film if that's what he wants. It seems like they could maybe give him a chance at that and maybe negotiate with him to keep him on for some more films.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that until now. I'd be curious to see how the MCU handles bringing a character back from the dead if that is indeed the case. I know that Coulson was resurrected on Agents of SHIELD, but Whedon says that he considers him still dead as far as the films go. So that sort of seems like a gray area at this point on how they handle characters dying and being resurrected.

I don't see Marvel ever killing Rogers. If anything, maybe he'll be crippled or lose his serum powers or something, but I highly doubt he'll be flat-out killed.

I don't see the point of making a Winter Soldier movie AND giving that actor a 9-movie contract if they didn't plan on killing Steve Rogers and having Bucky become the new Captain America. Winter Soldier isn't an exciting enough character to see him in 9 movies.
I don't think Rogers will die in Civil War though. Yes, he died in the comic Civil War story, but the movies are only vaguely similar to the comics. I think Rogers will die at the end of Infinity War Part 1. The Avengers roster is getting pretty big and needs to be thinned out. So the perfect way to do that is have Thanos kill a few Avengers at the end of Part 1 to show the audience that he is a big deal.

Yeah I like the Winter Soldier a lot but there has to be more to that character if he's signed on for nine films and has only appeared in two thus far. Marvel must have some bigger plans down the line for Bucky and it would seem logical to have him take over as Cap and have Rogers die or at least be injured or something to the point of him having to step down. I think Marvel probably wants to keep most of their characters alive for future films so I'm not sure killing them is a good option.

My guess is that the 9 film deal is less about Marvel having specific plans to feature Bucky in 9 movies than it is about making sure they have Stan locked down if they decide they want to use him in the future.

Possibly. I remember reading a while back that Marvel Studios has plans for their characters into the next decade or so though. So it wouldn't surprise me if he's part of their plans at some point in time. I guess that doesn't necessarily mean that Bucky will be Captain America at some point, but it does seem like signing Stan to a nine film deal is a bit excessive if they don't have some future plans for him. My guess is that he'll be a part of Civil War for sure but even doing that film leaves six films on his deal.

Yeah, a nine-movie deal for what is essentially a third-rate character is a bit excessive. I can understand wanting to lock down the actual Avengers characters, but Winter Soldier isn't an Avenger and likely never will be unless he becomes the new Captain America.
People complain Loki is overused, and he's only been in three movies. Do you really want another six movies with Winter Soldier?

Well considering that character evolves a lot more than say Loki or any of other heroes, it could work just well and fine.
The guy was Bucky then he's the winter soldier, and then he can be a cap too. If they want to. They could keep Bucky as WS and then if need be make him a Cap. The comics have shown what kind of crap Bucky has had to deal with SINCE coming to realize what he was.
9 movies w/ Barnes could work out cuz of how much evolution that character has had to deal with.
Talking about the comics, I liked seeing him as Cap. He didn't deserve the title but it was felt nobody else could do the role either. So a disgruntled Barnes takes up the mantle and that was pretty exciting. He was a Cap that villains didn't expect to get. Good stuff w/ Brubaker on Bucky Cap.

No one is saying Bucky can't work over the course of nine films. Just that if he stays Winter Soldier for all of them it might get kind of old. If he gradually evolves and takes on the Captain America role it'll work fine though.

I really don't think anyone is expecting 9 films of the Winter Soldier.

Winter Soldier needs his own solo movie! Heck, he needs his own solo trilogy! It would be just as epic as the Hawkeye trilogy!

Marvel has found a way to go bigger. Avengers: Infinity War will be shot entirely in IMAX witht the new IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera, “a joint customized digital version of ARRI’s new large format camera, the Alexa 65.” This is the first time a Hollywood film will be shot entirely in IMAX and will be exclusively in the IMAX aspect ratio. Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be using the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera for some of the action scenes in their upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War, so they’ll have some experience with them before they move to Infinity War.

How does this new IMAX camera differ to the new one Michael Bay used on the last Transformers movie?
This is great news because 15/70 film purists can finally shut the fuck up. IMAX digital is the future and Infinity War will require you to lube your anus before watching the movie. Having just watched Avengers in the new IMAX laser projector, my anus is ready.
