we've had some some solid shit come out since that flick
Fast and Furious 6 came out in that same year in May. Also the Raid 2 had fucking amazing action.
Admittingly... John Wick was pretty evened out in the awesome department.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say this has been somewhat overrated/over-reviewed. Yeah, it's a fun movie with a lot of good action in it, but - as an above poster pointed out - it is VERY formulaic and predictable. Also, even though it's only a little over 90 minutes, much of the action is overlong to the point of boredom...I could have done with a "less is more" policy there.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, and also liked the comic book vibe it had and the fact that it has a lot of good character actors that pop up and an effort to "build a world" rather than just give us another revenge pic. So while this isn't something I'd be interested in seeing a second time, I wouldn't be opposed to a sequel to the film either.
B-minus from me.

I just came back from this and the hype is justified. Why the fuck did my eyes well up when Keanu started crying when he began reading the note and then seeing the dog there? Now that's a fucking hook and it damn well hooked my audience, because we were all along for the ride for the next 90 minutes watching Keanu kill fuckers. This is the second best action flick of the year right behind The Raid 2.
The Blu-ray should be phenomenal. Oh, and I did like the various cameos. It looked like The Wire had several alumni in attendance. Did you guys spot Kevin Nash? Good to see Dean Winters again, too.

How bad is the dog abuse stuff? That's keeping me from seeing this. I can't watch stuff like that.

I wouldn't say painless
But yeah, it happens out of focus in the background where you don't really see anything.

Spoiler:
Actually, tasteful is how I'd describe all the violence in this flick. There's a huge body count but all the kills are very matter-of-fact and never feel gratuitous.

Yeah. They really worked it in well. The colors everywhere, the action, etc.

The action as Rocshemp said is very well done. It's brutal cuz of it's bluntness and speed but it doesn't make you stare at it. I'm not going to lie... I enjoyed Reeve's action in here better than in The Matrix. It was just so goddamn fresh.

Given that my favorite films of the year so far are LUCY and EXPENDABLES 3, it seems only natural that I should rush out to see this.

Really liked it. I've never been a big Keanu fan. Every movie he's been in that was really popular and well done(Point Break, Speed, The Matrix) I always felt succeeded not because of anything he did but because they were just good movies. But I will say I thought he was great in this.
The action is really well done too. We actually get to see it, and I don't know if Reeve's used a stunt double, but if he did they did a great job of concealing it. Also nice to see Danielle Bernhardt in this. He's making a nice niche for himself in bigger budget movies between this and Parker.
5/5.

Pretty good flick. Saw it on IMAX with about 10 other people at an early matinee. There were a few big plot holes but, being it's an action movie, they can be forgiven.

I like the core story. From the trailer I saw that Keanu acting quite superb.. not comparable to Denzel Washington who I think best suit for this movie but at least Kenu is entertaining.

Caught this tonight at a $2 super saver theater near my home.
Anyways, I had a blast watching this. yes, it's formulaic and essentially a B movie, but it was fun as hell. It was 95 minutes of Keanu being a badass and killing dozens and dozens of assassins and Russian mobsters. Some awesome head shots and kills. Loved all the guest stars. I felt like it was heavily influenced from comic books and 90s Hong Kong cinema.
The infamous dog scene was definitely tough to watch (but it's the movies) I really liked how Daisy and John bonded.
Crazy how the whole plot went down because of a stolen car and a dog.
I see that this comes out on Blu-Ray next month. I think I may pick this up.

John Wick was hardly a bomb as you feared. It's made over $70M worldwide on a $20M budget. Almost $43M in the States.

and I threw in an extra $2 tonight.
