This was one of the best received films from Fantastic Fest. Everyone raved about it and its currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (out of 9 reviews obviously).

Keanu Reeves shooting people in the head for 120 minutes? Sign me up.

More like 90 minutes (96 to be specific, it seems).

This movie will definitely appeal to middle America. They should have had the pooch killer steal his pickup as well.

That's a good trivia question: Name an actor who is in two different movies with the same title.

I can't think of another example OTTOMH.

Do remakes count? Michael Caine starred in Get Carter as well as the remake, Get Carter.

Burt Reynolds was apparently in The Longest Yard remake, if that counts too.

I still don't know about this. The outstanding reviews are very encouraging, yet when I watch the trailer I still see a "Direct to Video" B action movie. Certainly willing to give it a chance though.

Re: John Wick (10/24/14; d: Stahelski & Leitch) S: Keanu, Dafoe, Leguizamo

I saw an advanced screening last night. I dug it and I'll pick up the BD, BUT I wasn't blown away, it wasn't the best action movie in years, "insert additional extreme hyperbole here", etc.

The script is pretty B grade, and comes with its share of eye roll inducing lines, but the movie makes up for it with great action scenes. Reeves was awesome during these scenes and was believable as a badass hitman. He clearly trained hard for the role and was impressive in both gunplay and hand to hand combat.

It was great seeing some familiar faces in this movie. Ian McShane (Al Swearengen from Deadwood), Dean Winters (Ryan O'Reilly from Oz...or as most people know him, "Mayhem" from the Allstate commercials), Alfie Allen (Theon from Game of Thrones), Lance Reddick (Cedric Daniels from The Wire), and of course the always awesome Willem Dafoe. John Leguizamo unfortunately is only in 1 scene. Everyone was fantastic in their roles.

There was also a surprising amount of humor in this movie. It's a welcome addition and it doesn't ruin the tone of the story.

If you're jonesing for an action movie, you can't go wrong with John Wick. Recommended.

I was to give this a try but animal cruelty is usually too much for me, even in a movie. Not sure I could get past those parts.

It's not gratuitous. You see a half second flash of someone kicking a puppy in the background.

Lots of good reviews. Really unexpected.

Sounds punchy and unpretentious.

I'll watch it.

I don't get this part. It's not actually happening. This wasn't made by a Chinese production. I like animals too and I don't like the idea of one getting hurt but... this is a movie. I can't think of any mainstream movie even letting heavy violence on animal being viewed in a gratuitous fashion.

You don't get that I don't enjoy seeing animals being hurt/tortured on screen, even if it's not real?

If only they'd all fight each other! What franchises are Costner and Caviezel crossing over/mashing up from? DANCES WITH WOLVES and PASSION OF CHRIST?

The only one I can think of is Madeline Stowe in REVENGE (the movie) and now REVENGE (the TV series).

But since one is a TV show, I guess that doesn't count.

Yeah.

Violence has a purpose in many narratives. Do I enjoy seeing Monica Bellucci get raped in a sustained 9 minute shot? No. I'm very uncomfortable watching it... but it does serve the narrative and has a purpose. We also need a BD of that here btw...

Being an action movie... I'm guessing... It's a very small beat for us to watch and some kind of major motivation for Wick to get all revenge type on his foes. Cuz it was a gift from his wife... his DYING wife. Sure it's a hokey premise but admirable to a degree. People love dogs, you don't hurt animals, and etc. Bad guy does that... leaves the audience with enough motivation to follow John Wick killing shit tons of people or something.

Charlton Heston in both Planet of the Apes and the remake.

I mentioned it earlier, but that should the revenge that takes place in the rest of the movie more satisfying!

Weird though that watching humans get hurt/tortured isn't as bad

I'm fine with countless people getting shot and maimed, but kick one puppy. That's where I draw the line.
Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, I get where you animal lovers are coming from. I just find it interesting that you are objecting to a small bit of animal cruelty in what looks to be a pretty violent against humans movie. By the way, I still can't watch THAT scene in Benji.
