Ghost in the Shell (2017) (D: Rupert Sanders; S: Johansson)

Could've sworn there was already a thread, but if someone finds it, this post can be combined with that one...

Anyway, Australian actress Margot Robbie is in early talks to star in Ghost in the Shell:

Re: Ghost in the Shell (20??) (D: Rupert Sanders; S: Margot Robbie)

I think I asked this before and Supermallet answered and I proceeded to forget, but on the subject of GOTS, was there an HD release which preserved the theatrical cut as something other than an interlaced extra?

I barely remember the movie (other than liking the animation, I found the story and thus the movie forgettable). What's the different between the two cuts?

Re: Ghost in the Shell (20??) (D: Rupert Sanders; S: Margot Robbie)

There's a re-animated version that has been released. Updated CGI, and (I think) re-recorded voices by the original actors. It's like Gus Van Sant's version of Psycho; nearly exactly the same in terms of cuts and whatnot, but updated (for modern audiences!) and ultimately pointless.
That disc has the original version of the film on it, but yeah, the quality isn't nearly as good. I want to say it's a "hidden" extra on the Blu-ray, but I can't remember. I haven't popped in that disc in ages.

I actually don't mind that updated version (it's not like it's unwatchable), but I hate that the original was treated so poorly. It deserves so much better.

Love the themes and general story of the movie, but always found it boring as hell. Curious to see how this turns out, but not hopeful as Sanders last movie was visually beautifully but oh so fucking boring.

I'm trying to compare her to Major Kusanagi, the part I'm presuming Ms. Robbie will play:

But I think I need a better picture of the actress to do so.

Maybe this one:

Hmmm...the vibe I'm getting is a good one. With dark hair, this could work.

P.S. I forgot one thing: Major Kusanagi is a cyborg. Can Ms. Robbie play it like a cyborg?

Her eyes are too small, and her mouth and nose are too big. Also the wind is not blowing her hair, WTF.

You're right, dammit, those Japanese animators just never get it right.

I honestly didn't remember who she was by name. Then the blonde image came up. Yeah. I remember her very well now.

If only the academy was smart enough to give her a best supporting actress nod for Wolf, then you all would know who she was by name

Although excellent eye candy, she did nothing of note in that movie to merit any awards or considerations.

Who said anything about the character being Asian? It's an adaptation, they, you know, adapt things.

Yeah, like adapting an Asian character into a Caucasian. That's racist, or something.

I always assumed that movies that adapt Japanese characters into Korean characters would be more racist

Her name is Kusanagi. I think it's safe to assume that's Japanese.

Anyway, I really liked the original movie but I actually prefer GOTS2.

The original is an Asian character.

Hey, they can go the way of 47 Ronin way and make the lead white and her cool sidekicks can all be white folk. Amirite?
