No. While my favorite movie is an art flick (Mulholland Drive), I also enjoyed White Chicks. Some people think I am, but frankly I'm just bored of recycled action movies.

I like to see anything that looks fun or interesting. That can be a wide variety of movies. So long as it is entertaining on some level I will watch it, but I may wait until home video/cable to see it.

I'm Bi-Snobby.
At times I'll view a film with a "Solid Snake" like obsession on things like the color palettes and other nerdy technical aspects. Other times, I'll view a film through the eyes of "EddieMoney" and just pick out females I want to bang.

I own more movies from 1939 than 2009. In college when my friends would rent movies, I'd always push for David Lynch or Coen Bros. which my friends would reject in favor of Tommy Boy or Liar! Liar! So probably.

This fits me too. I enjoy a lot of crap and just take it for what it is but I take my discussions of film more seriously than a lot of people I know. I consider my tastes somewhat broad but there are certain types of films I generally don't have interest in such as foreign films (I can appreciate them and that they're well made but I don't seek out watching them) and certain era's of film generally don't interest me (a lot of pre 1950's stuff).

Yes and no. I'm appalled at how little people know about old movies but then people make references to movies from the last 30 years that everyone gets except me.

Re: Are you a film snob?
I've had this conversation with some 'normal' friends...and I realized that I (and probably most of you guys here as well) just don't watch a movie the way other people do.
In other words, I'm looking at things like acting, directing, pacing, editing, cinematography, story flow, etc. when watching a film. I'm also using my knowledge of cinema to gauge how original the movie is, or if it's simply ripping off earlier, better flicks.
So I've realized I no longer watch (nor am I even capable of watching) a movie anymore like most 'average' moviegoers do. This probably explains why I (and many of you) scratch our heads when an obvious piece of dreck goes and makes $100 million-plus at the box office.

A few years ago we went to an art museum and saw an exhibit of pre-impressionists and Impressionism. Mrs Danger has a degree in art, and we walked through the galleries she gave me and my mother an hour-long lecture about how the artists approached their art, what they were trying to accomplish, and how the times they lived in affected their work. Other people might have preferred to just look at the pretty pictures, but I loved it.
Or, while were still dating, I took Mrs Danger to Baskin Robbins. I got up from the table to take a closer look at the refrigerator door. It was doing something odd, and I wanted to see how it worked.

I was thinking about this when I went to a crappy theater today. Well, it wasn't too bad, but not my preferred venue if you know what I mean.
So do you need everything perfect to enjoy your theater going experience?

I would say I'm not, but I have pretty broad tastes. I watched The Imitation Game and The Talented Mr. Ripley today but I watched Kingsman and Jurassic World a couple weeks ago and I thoroughly enjoyed all four.
I do have limits though. I'm not going to subject myself to watching an Adam Sandler "comedy" and there's no way I'm going to watch another Terrence Malick movie.

Re: Are you a film snob?
I absolutely need everything perfect, and when I'm paying more than $10 per ticket I damn well expect it! In the 80s and 90s there were many theaters that weren't equipped for stereo, or only had it in their largest houses, which to me was unacceptable given that I could watch movies in stereo at home. So those theaters I simply did not go to. Nowadays I'm even more demanding, mainly because of increased pricing. If there's even one tiny screen in a megaplex, I won't go there just on the chance the movie I see MIGHT be on that one screen. When I get Dolby Atmos at home, I'll likely demand that every theater be equipped with that.

I guess I'm but I don't really know. Can't stand 99% of the films that's out today. I find the actors/actresses to have zero charisma whatsoever but then again I'm a huge fan of the 80s Golan Globus actioners that most find to be trash...so I don't know.
