Luc Besson's EuropaCorp has announced the next slate of films to be co-produced with its Chinese partner Mark Gao's Fundamental Films, as part of the two companies' three-year output deal announced last July.
EuropaCorp and Fundamental will co-finance, produce and distribute the next three installments in the Transporter franchise (parts 4, 5 and 6). The projects will be budgeted from $30 million to $40 million; at least one of the films will likely shoot in China.
No word yet on whether Jason Statham is staying on as the franchise's star.
Also, the Transporter TV series that stars Chris Vance was shelved by Cinemax.

All 12 episodes were filmed and aired overseas. They are trying to get a new U.S. network to pick it up. A 2nd season was greenlit though.

Re: Luc Besson developing The Transporter 4, 5 and 6
Luc Besson's EuropaCorp is going ahead with a reboot of its hit Transporter franchise, greenlighting the first – Transporter 4 – and laying plans for two follow ups. Transporter 4 will be co-produced with Mark Gao's Shanghai-based Fundamental Films. It if performs as expected, Transporter 5 and Transporter 6 will be set up as official Chinese co-productions to get easier access to China's booming box office.
Jason Statham, who played the iconic driver Frank Martin in the first three Transporter films, will not reprise his role for the new movies, which will focus on Martin's origin story. EuropaCorp is shopping the reboot to international buyers at the European Film Market.
Fundamental Films and EuropaCorp have a multi-year output deal that stipulates Fundamental will release at least 15 EuropaCorp films in China and that Fundamental will co-produce at least three of those.
The first three films in the Transporter film franchise grossed some $250 million worldwide. Transporter has also been spun off as a TV series starring Chris Vance. The first season aired on Cinemax in 2011. Season two has been picked up by TNT and will premiere in Fall 2014.

that article is wrong, i think. i believe the transporter tv show originally supposed to air on cinemax will air on TNT as season 1. they will then air season two in the fall as it is filming right now.

That was Statham's signature role, IMO it'd be a mistake to do without him. The whole franchise was kind of a one-joke premise to begin with. It only became a franchise at all because the first movie became a big hit on DVD, and that market is now totally dead. Though if Yuen is back, I just might be enticed.

Yup, Article is wrong. Season 1 never aired in the U.S. TNT bought the rights to season 1, which is airing in the Fall and then will air season 2.

How Martin became the Transporter could be an interesting storyline. However, it really depends on who they cast as his younger self.
It's going to be weird though since Chris Vance is playing Martin simultaneously in the TV series.

these movies are only made for the US as an afterthought now. they do more business overseas now than they did when it first started, so it makes sense for them to continue the series.

The Transporter Legacy (2015) -- S: Ed Skrein, Ray Stevenson D: Delamarre (3/6/15)
The first installment of EuropaCorp‘s rebooted Transporter franchise, The Transporter Legacy, will be released in North America via EuropaCorp USA on March 6. Pic is in production with Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions) directing from a script by Exodus scribes Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. EuropaCorps’ Luc Besson (Taken and Transporter franchises) and Fundamental Films’ Mark Gao are producing. This is the first EuropaCorp deal stemming from the joint distribution agreement reached with Relativity in February. Under that pact, EuropaCorp titles will be released under EuropaCorp USA and Relativity titles under Relativity.
Set in the criminal underworld of France, Transporter Legacy stars Ed Skrein (Game Of Thrones, Northmen: A Viking Saga) as Frank Martin (The Transporter) who will deliver anything for a price. He eventually crosses paths with Anna (Loan Chabanol), the leader of a group of deadly assailants, who decides Frank is the man to take down a group of ruthless Russian human traffickers. Anna holds Frank’s father (Ray Stevenson) for ransom to ensure his cooperation and both of them are forced to team up with Anna to bring the villains to justice. Radivoje Bukvic (Taken), Gabriella Wright, Anatole Taubman (Taken, Quantum Of Solace) and Tatiana Pajkovic also star.
EuropaCorp is coming off the successful debut of Besson’s Scarlett Johansson starrer Lucy which grossed over $43 million in its debut weekend in North America.

This series makes it's money in Europe, so the American money is really just an added bonus.
Also for those unaware, The Transporter TV series will be airing this Fall on TNT. They are currently filming season 2 in Europe right now. It stars Chris Vance from Prison Break and Burn Notice. Season 1 has already aired in Europe. Here's a promotional photo of Vance as Martin. It was originally supposed to air on Cinemax last year, but they passed on it.
