So I finally caught this last night and um, hmm. I wanted to like it and it was certainly good but had so much more potential. It literally felt like a video game where the protagonists (if you can call them that) went from one level to another -- met by a boss monster and moved on.

Also, I think they ripped off the plot from Journey 2 the Center of the Earth. I only know this because I was forced to endure it on a family vacation. You have an island surround by a deadly storm, full of giant creatures and unspeakable periils... and in order to escape, you need to get to the COMPLETE OTHER SIDE in 3 days or else.

I wish the plot had focused more on Kong than the unlikable characters --- especially Sam Jackson. 2/5.

I haven't seen Kong Skull Island but I have seen Journey to the Center of the Earth. Journey is sweet and does not need to be "endured" and by your description Kong is nothing like Journey.

I think you are talking about Mysterious Island.

I watched it Saturday. I agree with what you said, but I think I liked it more than you. I'd give it a 3 or 3.5. Just curious, did you watch the bit after the end credits setting up the franchise?

There is a 2 in the title because it is the second one. It's a sequel to the Brendan Fraser remake.

And it isn't called Journey 2 the Center of the Earth, it's called Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

No, didn't realize there was an end credit... I'll definitely check that out. I know Godzilla is in the franchise future - which sounds great in theory.

Yep, that's it. I watched it at a Universal Hotel... they do evening, outdoor showings for families. My kids were amazed you could watch a movie on a big screen at a pool... so we did
