Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

I enjoyed it as well. It kept me interested throughout and the cinematography was good.

Although I'm sure the real life story of Glass's injury and recovery were at least a little bit exaggerated - it was overdone in the film. The way the mauling was depicted in the film, it would've taken Glass a lot longer to recover - especially since along the way he had a lack of food, had to endure a fever, and battle hypothermia from his time in the cold water and contend with his injuries from falling off a cliff, through a tree and onto the ground. The Hollywood action flick realism took over at that point.

Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

so no CG was supposedly used in the film?
Spoiler:
they must have used some green screening on the "horse jumping off the cliff" scene

Source?

Cuz.... from the trailer... that horse falling off the cliff is most likely CGI.

what type of box office will this movie do? I think it will perform poorly, regardless of how good the movie is.

I'm looking forward to it, but I can't imagine that most people are.

So how little spoken dialogue is actually in this for those who have seen it?

Is it true that people mouth the words to things and you don't hear what they're actually saying, just the noises of nature in the background?

Super imposed? CGI usually refers to Computer Generated Imagery, not simple things like super imposing and removing wires.

Well the bear is CGI.... there's no way out of it. It looks good and the way they did it on DiCaprio's part is interesting.

Well there you go then, it outright says it's CGI there.

Just got back from the film. It was great. Lubezki will most likely get a nomination for cinematography. Fucking outstanding. The film itself is bleak as fuck, which I liked, but I sort of think the audience didn't really care for the dire pummeling DiCaprio got. That bear scene is worth price of admission alone. Leo's character got FUCKED UP!

While I liked it, I thought it was overly long.

My question is, if the French had the Chief's daughter? Where did they hide her? Seems like the Chief paid a surprise visit to trade the pelts for the guns and horses?

Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

Saw this today.

Damn good movie. Chivo does it again. Motherfucker gets some amazing imagery.

I noticed Iñarritu used several hidden edits beyond the attacking Arikara in the tree from the trailer.

Spoiler:
I could have done w/o some of the dream imagery. It was pretty but felt maybe it needed to stay more "gritty" for the better of it at times. But I also enjoyed it too cuz it added something. I dunno. It neither hurt nor bettered it.

I'm also confused about Powaqa. Not sure how she'd be missed.

I'm not sure what real gripes I could make. It was a film about surviving. And that shit takes time. Especially w/ what Glass had to face here. I really dug it. I loved the brutality of it. And the pace of how it unfolds. It really felt like you were just viewing something happening as distanced 3rd person instead of literally throwing you into the emotions and etc of the characters. You were witnessing a man survive and you could do nothing but watch.

The bear scene is interesting. Again the pace gives it a realistic feel. The bear has its own concerns and doesn't particularly care for Glass. It has higher priorities to which they connected to Glass due to his presence. But the way it is done makes feel real. That sort passing care an animal may have. I think that was very well done.

Pretty badass film that has a slower pace than modern films but it also doesn't slog through it cuz of the material. It actually went by really fast for me.

The acting was all kinds of solid stuff. Great ensemble casting when the ensemble was there for it.

Props to the production on this one. All around great stuff. The damage to Glass looked really good too. Especially w/ the ugly way that the human body heals from crazy shit.

Not sure how I feel about DiCaprio finally getting his Oscar. He always feels solid. And think this type of film really really fit his extreme way/expression of characters. Not sure who else could be in the running for The Oscars. I guess... Cranston, Redmayne, Fassbender...and Damon? I dunno. It's been an interesting year in variety to some form.

Here's an article where some guy bitches about how DiCaprio's performance isn't much.

I don't care if he doesn't win. Or if He does. I can't really say much based on what films I've seen last year. But... DiCaprio is acting damn good in this.

Spoiler:
The French soldiers had her all along. Toussaint and his men. They had her hidden.

Congrats to DiCaprio for his well earned Oscar.

Easily my favorite film of the year. Truly epic.

Lubezki's work in this is just stunning. The way he films people, the way the camera moves around people .. it's just a masterful command.

BTW, film is doing 40+ million opening weekend and WOM will be strong.

Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

I did learn one thing. I didn't know that "Tree N igger" was a thing. Goddamn. White people really got inventive w/ N igger. I knew of just Sand N igger existing. Didn't know there were more types of N iggers.

Goddamn, there are a lot of different N iggers. Y'all white people are fucked up. I guess Field N igger can be attributed to more than a black person? Jesus. Border N igger. How'd I not know that one?

Just input N igger in that database.

Just heard this is on track to be #1 at BO, unseating Star Wars.

So is this all done as "1 shot" like Birdman?

Re: The Revenant (2015, D: Iñárritu) S: DiCaprio, Hardy

No. That would a literal nightmare for him to even attempt in those conditions

Box Office Mojo already has it at $14 million and change w/ SW at $10 million.
