I think the difference with something like Team America is that the entire plot didn't revolve around trying to assassinate a leader of a country. I think Sony was still stupid to have ever given this film the green light. Whether or not North Korea or someone else is behind the hacking doesn't really matter. Content matter like this was bound to brew up a shit storm.

They are in fact considering VOD: http://variety.com/2014/film/news/so...ve-1201381920/

There is no difference, it's the same thing as Team America, and with the Saddam jokes in Hot Shots Part 2. The only difference is the massive coincidence of the hack which is using The Interview as a scapegoat. We can't even be sure the "act of war" comments truly came from North Korea.

Has anybody thought this could be coming from the "Fappening" hackers?
That said, VOD and BD sales will be huge.

Maybe this is just the shot in the arm that VOD needs...

No.. but do you really think the North Koreans give a fuck about some two-bit movie made by a couple of stoners? Why didn't they storm our shores after Team America? As others have posted, this movie would be On Demand by February 1 if it wasn't getting the publicity it is right now.
Kim Jong-il, a noted film buff,[24] never commented publicly about his depiction in Team America: World Police, although shortly after its release North Korea asked the Czech Republic to ban the film; the country refused saying that North Koreans had been rebuffed in their effort to undermine the Czech Republic's post-Communist era freedom

I doubt it. Those were guys that were hacking individual phones and trading celeb pictures back and forth via the deepweb for years. This situation sounds more like a well thought out entry into Sony's entire system, most likely by someone who not only already knew how to get around their security, but knew exactly how their systems and information were organized.

Might as well say we have no idea who did it.
Despite the FBI saying just a few days ago that there was "no attribution to North Korea at this point," ABC News is reporting that federal cyber-security sources "close to the investigation" have indeed confirmed that the FBI does have reason to believe that North Korea may be involved in some capacity after all.
Specifically, the sources are citing evidence suggesting that the initial breach "was routed through a number of infected computers in various locations overseas, including computers in Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Bolivia, Poland and Cyprus." All of which may have been perpetrated by an elite North Korean hacking unit known as Bureau 21.
Potentially adding credence to this theory, and according to ABC News' sources, a malicious app that infected South Korean smartphones last fall used language markedly similar to that used by the GOP in its various data leaks.
Of course, until we get an official statement from the feds, nothing can really be said for certain. And many are still doubtful or North Korea's involvement, citing the act that, as far as we know, North Korea probably doesn't have the skill necessary to carry out such a sophisticated attack. As David Kennedy, founder of security consulting firm TrustedSec, told Business Insider:
North Korea is definitely stepping up its offensive capability. But it is still very shut off and secretive, so it struggles with getting the technology it needs to launch major cyberattacks.
Still, that's not to say we can completely count North Korean involvement out as a possibility. it's certainly not impossible. The country has been reported to boast over 1,000 "very skilled" hackers in its arsenal. And for what it's worth, North Korea hasn't exactly been bashful when it comes to taking credit for these kinds of scenarios in the past. [ABC News]

Looks like complete capitulation:

The only way Sony can redeem themselves now is to drop Rogen and Franco into North Korea to actually assassinate Kim Jong-un!

I think Sony should print hundreds of thousands of DVD of the movie, fly over No and drop them all off.

I don't entirely agree. Team America was more just a satire on America's need to try and be the World's police. It spoofed real world leaders and terrorists, but the entire plot of this film is revolving around trying to assassinate the leader of a country that's entirely unstable and who has a leader who is off his rocker. Whether or not the threats are coming from North Korea its the world we live in unfortunately that people are going to take advantage of something that might be intended to just be goofy and use it to make legitimate threats. In that case I think Sony kind of screwed themselves by thinking that releasing this film was a good idea. Maybe that is "letting the terrorists win" but at a certain point it kind of boils down to common sense decisions.

Just release it on Blu-ray...that's how I would have eventually seen it.
Does anyone remember there was another movie, a comedy I think, that was going to be coming out around the same time, but the studio decided to push back the release back into next year because The Interview was expected to do really well? I'm sure they're kicking themselves now for not releasing their movie now.

Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like.
