Re: Lionsgate / Saban To Reboot Power Rangers As Movie Franchise

Anyway, I enjoyed it for what it was as a short that played off the nostalgia of the first couple seasons of Power Rangers with the familiar characters mentioned in a more "realistic" setting. The casting was actually pretty well done, although Sackhoff is no Amy Jo Johnson It was nice to see a take on how silly the premise of the show was, although obviously not the style and tone of an actual Power Rangers would or should be.

I agree on that. Things they need to keep imo but tweak a few things;

1.Teenagers. Don't make Adults posing as teenagers. Genuine teenage actors or close to that age is a must.

2.Zords. Go back to the original Dino zords. Have the Government assist in making them more powerful than anything we've seen before. They could be contracted out to assist in war time.

3.The Villain should be Lord Zedd. make him even more menacing and terrifying like he originally was designed. Zedd would bring with him an Alien Kaiju like creatures to once and for all take down the Power Rangers.

The little dinosaur logos on their suits look goofy (and I know calling anything goofy in the context of the show is ironic, but still).

And boy does this guy try too hard in that video.

I just saw that he's responsible for that Punisher short awhile back with Thomas Jane. Rad.

If Power Rangers got the kind of love that del Toro gave his franchise, it would work out damn well.

You forgot one other thing. Keep it colorful. Like the way Pacific Rim was colorful but also the costumes themselves should really pop.

I think the problem that a Power Rangers film is going to have is finding a good balance between making a film that's mature enough to break the stigma that Power Rangers is for kids and convince an older audience to see it, but yet remain kid friendly enough that it doesn't damage the reputation the various versions of the show have with the younger crowd and their parents.

Not really a jab. I actually made a Torque/Kahn jab but not a Nolan one.

It's not a reach at all to suggest that the guy who created a video eviscerating one of Nolan's inept action scenes shot-by-shot might be taking the piss out of him, at least partially.

Edit: I was confused: Kahn actually defended Nolan against said shot-by-shot teardown.

I'd like to know how come they didn't hire Jason David Frank for Tommy? He's always been up for returning to the series and looks buff as hell and would've fit in well with the short.

Mr. Frank will be appearing at a comics show in NYC on Sat. March 7. I'm thinking of trying to interview him.

I agree. I think that the first Ninja Trutles movie (not the Michael Bay one) is a good example. The problem was parents who thought it was too dark.

I like his thoughts on it and I agree with him regarding how the real movie should be.

Yeah, the 1990 flick had the perfect tone. It stayed true to the darker tone of the original comics but it made it accessible to kids who became fans because of the cartoons. That'd be the right tone for this property. Although I'd argue they'd have to go a tad lighter since Power Rangers was never really dark.

Yeah he pretty much confirmed he's in talks to be in the actual movie. Seeing Tommy back as the Green or White Ranger on the big screen would kick ass!

Interview with Kahn.

What was different in the original Vimeo, just some nudity?

Yes the two girls in bed with Zack were naked. One of them was Bree Olson in the credits they're listed as Scorpino and Divatox

PR Dino Charge fulfills both of these:

1.

2.

It's produced by Adi Shankar. He's part of Lionsgate. Saban knows about it for sure. If not, I'd be amazed.
You were saying.

At the end of the day, this is free publicity for Lionsgate and Saban for a video Shankar and Khan are getting no money from. Regardless if they like the content or not, this short film might get asses into seats.

I like this line in the piece:
The film is worth a watch (while you still can) -- JVDB turns in some hardcore sword work.
Is JVDB the new JCVD?

Saban needs Lionsgate more than Lionsgate needs Saban.
