They look like Iron Man suits with Power Rangers helmets on them to me, especially with the glowing chest pieces.

Yeah Iron Man was the first thing I thought of too. I actually don't hate them but they're a bit different than I expected. I kind of like how the white broke up the colors with the gloves, belts, and boots on the original suits more than the way they've done it here.

I kind of like them. Could have held back on how much sheen there is to it but I'm fine w/ it.

Actually, those costumes recall Japanese studio Toei's "Metal Hero" tokusatsu franchise, which started in 1982 with "Space Sheriff Gavan" and continued into the '90s, including this series, "Special Rescue Exceedraft" from 1992:

If you admitted to liking Power Rangers back when the TV series aired (I was in elementary school) you were endlessly mocked and ridiculed, and probably given a wedgie on a few occasions.

I was 40 when it premiered and I've watched every season since.
When it first came on, I determined very quickly that it was using footage from a Japanese TV show, so I wound up getting tapes of the original show, "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" (which is now out in a box set on DVD with English subs.), and showing them to my daughter and her friends, which gave them an edge over their friends at school. One of the friends said only one of his classmates believed him when he told them about the Japanese show and informed them that the Yellow Ranger was a guy in the original. That classmate, a girl, realized he was right because the Yellow Ranger in MMPR didn't have a skirt on her costume the way the Pink Ranger did.

Ha. I didn't know that the yellow ranger was a guy in the Japanese show. Ha.
I always didn't like though how I could tell that for some reason bits and pieces of the shows looked so different visually. Really annoyed me as a kid actually. Didn't know till I was like in Intermediate school and out of the MMPR phase that it was a property from Japan.
