The "I hate A CHRISTMAS STORY" thread
That's it.
I hate that movie. It's annoying as fuck. Every bit of it. Maybe it's a good movie. I don't know. It's so goddamn annoying to me that I can't be around it cuz it just pisses me off. I hate TBS for having those 24 hour marathons of it. Ever since I was a little kid...it's annoyed me.
I just find no goddamn amount of pleasure in it.

I've never liked it either. I always thought it was stupid from the first time I saw it when I was younger. The TBS marathons definitely didn't help matters with making it even more annoying.

I've never understood the manic passion people have for this movie. It's not very funny, but if people said "Oh, that movie's cute" I wouldn't think twice about it. But people routinely call it the best Christmas movie ever, and the aforementioned 24-hour TBS marathons make no fucking sense to me.
Give me a 24-hour marathon of Die Hard or Gremlins any day.

How bout you just don't watch TBS for a 24 hour stretch?
Never understood the hate for the movie. It's a good movie. Just watch it once a year at most.

I really like the movie (mainly due to Darren McGavin's performance), but these marathons have played it into the ground. It's good, but no movie is that good!

You've never had your eye shot out by a BB gun so you don't relate. Get it!?! I used a quote in the movie in your hate thread. *giggle, snort, chuckle*
P.S.-I don't hate you, I just wish you'd stop raping. Many people would have sex with you if you paid them or did some kind of job for them. There's no need for the raping.

I don't hate it but it's just kind of meh. I always figure it's because I didn't watch it as a kid and it's not the same catching up to it as an adult.

I'm mostly with Snake here. I've been watching this movie since I was a kid - because it's always on somewhere during Xmas season - and it never clicked with me. I bought the HD DVD for, like, a buck just because I felt like rounding out my Xmas film collection in case anyone wanted to see it. It still does nothing for me.

This is a movie discussion forum. He's allowed to post about a movie he doesn't like. On the other hand, coming in here with the sole purpose of disparaging him, when you knew who the OP was and what the thread subject was, feels petty.

Re: The "I hate A CHRISTMAS STORY" thread
I love the movie, and it's one of the only movies I can recall about kids where I watch it and say "yes, that's pretty much how I saw the world when I was 10"--as opposed to most cinematic depictions of children as either wise-cracking mini-adults or sickeningly adorable and precocious tykes.
That being said, yes, no movie deserves to be on a 24 hour marathon. Although I have a standing policy with all of my favorite movies that I have on DVD or blu ray----when they come on tv, change the channel. Overplay can ruin any movie.
