Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015, D: Vaughn; S: C. Firth, S. Jackson)

I didn't see a thread for this film. Vaughn wasn't on hand for the FOX panel, but a cut sequence was shown.

Filming is currently underway for THE SECRET SERVICE and thanks to The Daily Mail, we now have the first set images featuring stars Colin Firth and Taron Egerton. The Matthew Vaughn film is an adaptation of the Mark Millar comic of the same name, and follows a secret agent named Uncle Jack (Firth) as he trains his troubled nephew (Egerton) in the art of espionage. THE SECRET SERVICE is Taron Egerton's big screen debut, and besides Firth the film also stars Samuel L. Jackson as the villain and Michael Caine as the head of the spy agency. Colin Firth and Tom Egerton do look quite a bit like the comic book versions of their characters in the images below, and with Matthew Vaughn directing I have very high hopes for THE SECRET SERVICE. Like most comics by Mark Millar, THE SECRET SERVICE is violent and funny as hell, and the film should be an absolute blast. Especially if they get Mark Hamill. THE SECRET SERVICE will be in theaters November 14th, 2014. - See more at: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/firs....fOf1tdWO.dpuf
I guess it's lucky to be based on the comic book considering the lawsuit MGM has against Universal right now over their future film titled MI6 film and how much it MAY resemble Bond.

As for the scene:

Spoiler:
Firth is talking to Egerton in a booth at a bar. The familiar "you're not making anything of yourself" speech that Kirk got from Pike. Some blokes enter the bar and Egerton is like "ah, shit". Seems they're after him for something. Firth tells them to kindly leave as he wants to finish his Guiness. They tell him to piss off and for him to leave instead. So he walks to the door, but he stops and starts to lock the deadbolts. Turns and says, "well, are we going to fight or not?" Then it's a very brutal fight in which he uses his umbrella. Quick cuts and slow mo cuts. Shades of Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes action style mixed in with Zack Snyder with a hint of Gareth Evans from the Raid. It looks like a period piece, but there's a lot of tech involved with that umbrella. Once they are dispatched along with the bartender phoning someone, he sits back down and finishes his Guiness. Apologizes that he needed that to blow off some steam.

I was surprised to see Samuel Jackson in the trailer though, never knew he was gonna be in it. I'm starting to get sick of him after seeing him in The Winter Soldier, then Agents of Shield and then Robocop. Dude doesn't take vacations.

This looks like MEN IN BLACK with Brits instead of aliens.

But I see Lawrence Fishburne is in it, so it can't be that bad.

But Samuel L Jackson makes a lot of movies that people actually see, so he stands out more in people's minds.

Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong, and Sam Jackson (with a lisp, no less) in a spy/actioner? Fuck yeah!

i don't know why, but i find it moderately amusing that this is being promoted so heavily, yet it doesn't come out until feb. 2015.

When I saw this trailer earlier in a theater earlier this summer, my first thought was that it was the movie version of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and I scratched my head wondering why they made all the characters Brits.

Like with all Matthew Vaughn movies, I'll wait for the inferior sequel by a lesser director.

^If you didn't discover a modicum of enjoyment in Danny Cannon's "Stardust 2", mister I feel sorry for you.

The release date has been changed numerous times. First it was November 14th, then March 6 2015. Then it was moved back to October 24th, and finally settled on February 13th.

I saw a trailer for this months ago. I forgot what movie it was in front of.

Went to a screening of this last night, enjoyed it immensely. Much like Kick-Ass, it's played straight but with a humorous touch, plus the action is over the top (in a good way). The CGI is a little dodgy at times, but I didn't mind because it fit with the absurdity of those particular moments. Definitely worth a trip to the theater if you're on the fence about this.

The trailer for this makes it look like it's based on some shitty comic book nobody cares about or has read. But since it's by Vaughn, it'll make some dough.

I was surprised when I saw this got an R rating. The early previews made it look like they were going for a teenage crowd . Glad that's not the case.

My first thought was that they were trying to do a good remake of the John Steed Avengers. Must've been the brolly.

Trust me, it earned that R rating.

When people who saw early screenings in the UK compared the climax's bloodshed and violence to that of Dead-Alive's, I was sold.

However, I know the film has been "edited" in the UK since then. I don't know if the edits occurred to the US edit as well.
