Saw this last night. Phenomenal film and a worthy final entry to Gandolfini's work. In my top 10 for the year and absolutely one of the best crime films in the last few years.

4.5/5
The director's previous film Bullhead with Matthias Schoenaerts is also excellent.

I liked it, but honestly I thought it was a pretty by-the-numbers crime drama that I've seen dozens of times before. Everything was fine but nothing stood out.
On a side note, I had a tough time with the Brooklyn accents. I don't think it effected my overall enjoyment of the film, just an observation.

I liked it quite a bit. Definitely a slow burn, but a solid plot plus I'm a big fan of Tom Hardy. Hell, I could watch him sit in one place and talk for 1.5 hours and be entertained.

I do the 1-10 scale. And I'd give this film a solid 8.5/10. Thought everyone was fantastic. Sad that the movie opened fairly strong the first weekend and dropped significantly after that. Hardy definitely stole the spotlight. He was great. Rapace was pretty great too, and turned in a very sweet performance. Gandolfini was just o.k. Did a decent job but you don't walk away feeling his character or performance were all that memorable.

Goddamn. Bought this for cheap via Amazon. Always wanted to see it. Goddamn great movie. Such powerful and natural flow of the pacing to it all. No BS.

Watched it again with a family member who never heard of it and he loved it.
This deserves more love, excellent film and Tom Hardy is the man.

The director of this Michaël R. Roskam is excellent. Looks like Hollywood didn't pan out for him and he is back in Belgium doing something with Matthias Schoenaerts and Adèle Exarchopoulos.

Just saw The Drop & was extremely impressed. Excellent crime drama with amazing acting. Gandolfini was amazing as the once-well respected gangster/tough guy whose glory days were far behind him. And, Hardy disappeared into his role as the seemingly slow/dim bartender, but who was a lot more than he appeared. Noomi Rapace was incredible as always; I've been a fan of hers ever since seeing the original GWTDT years ago.
It's worth noting that this film is based on one of my favorite short stories, Animal Rescue by Boston-based crime novelist Dennis Lehane. I was glad to see Lehane wrote the script for The Drop, ensuring that the film was - overall - faithful to the short story...though the film expands the storyline to some extent.
That being said, my only complaint is that the movie took place in Brooklyn, not Boston (which is where the short story took place). That also being said, this was a minor complaint & this didn't mar my enjoyment of the film.
