I like the poster for this and High-Rise. I just hope this is better than High-Rise.

This premiered at TIFF last night. Didn't see it because it was a "premium" screening with Big Names in attendance and thus the ever-increasing ticket price was doubled to nearly fifty bucks .
Anyway, Free Fire got a solid review from Variety, and a more mixed one from THR:
http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews...ey-1201855662/
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rev...-review-926912
Could just be me, but TIFF also seems to have reduced the max number of screenings for MANY shows -- including Free Fire, oddly -- to just two as opposed to what I believe was the more common three of years past. Some of that could be because distributors want to build anticipation more slowly, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in part because non-gala screenings rarely sell out completely, leaving theaters rather spottily filled by the second or third showing, especially on weekdays.

That trailer really shows some of the best parts of the flick, saw it at TIFF today. The first 40 minutes are awesome, fast paced, good dialogue, interesting characters and a ton of fun. It becomes a LOT of the same in the middle - people crawling around and shooting like the trailer suggests and then ends on a decent note... It's 90 minutes long and honestly if it was 75 minutes I'd say it was a gem...just starts to get a bit monotonous - Wheatly wanted the realism of real people having shit aim but there is a reason most Hollywood movies don't go for that - becomes a bit of a slog.
However, the charisma of the cast carries the day, just don't expect a non-stop thrill ride because that middle section is kind of dull for all the action. It did have the LOUDEST gunshots I've ever heard in a movie though, mixed up quite a bit for added realism and Copley is the fucking best in this. I was surprised that a movie with this much gunplay wasn't THAT violent - there is a bit of gore but it's actually fairly tame, some of the action feels cartoonish but the cast sells it.
I wished it was tighter paced but it is well worth seeing and I had a lot of fun with it. 4/5

I saw this yesterday and thought it was a ton of fun. It was pretty funny too. I liked how it reversed the trope of how people in movies are always expert marksmen. The characters here could barely shoot the side of the barn, which is how the shootout lasts so long.

I think you're too comfortable w/ tropes. It's the 1970s too. Being part of a mob doesn't mean you have to have a look specifically. There can be a look. But doesn't mean everyone is that noticeable.

I got tickets to a special Advance Screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco next week! Sharlto Copely will be in attendance for a Q&A afterwards!
Looking forward to this one as I love Ben Wheatley's films.

Saw an Advance Screening of this earlier tonight. So much fun!
My main concerns about the film (the number of characters and settings) were quickly washed away once the film started. Sharlto Copley steals the show in every scene he's in.
Got to meet him after the Screening too!

Surprised at how little activity there is in this thread as this seems like the kind of movie that a lot of people here would like. I saw it the other night and loved it. I run hot and cold with Wheatley but this movie is a blast. It shows how much you can do with a simple premise and a talented cast. Really recommend it.

yeah, i got this for the $12 and change Amazon had it for. seems like a good deal and lots of fun. plus, i love Brie Larson. what's odd about this is there is still not a listing on DVD Profiler for it. weird since they got everything and this came out today...

I didn't care much for this when I saw it in the theatre.

Got this from Redbox last night. The really blew. Good opportunity but just wasted. Did not care for any of the characters so what happened to them didn't matter.

Watched this today and thought it rocked -- it may crack my Top-10 of the year. It's quite hilarious and ultra-violent. Good to see James Smiley in there, too. It's as if this was this year's "Mr Nice Guys." Not the same script, but it could co-exist in that world.
The lossless soundtrack on the BD is reference. It rocked hard.

As for the movie, started off well and then tapered off. No real desire to watch it again tbh.

Didn't care for this movie, quite frankly, I was bored with the whole thing. Good actors, but this was a waste.
