Finally, the ONLY Pixar flick that begged for a sequel. Yeah, that's including the Toy Story flicks. Sure they turned out mostly good, but they're just rehashes of the first film and not needed.

Sorry, that gets hung on Pixar too. I don't care which name is on the film.

No doubt. I liked Brave, but I've been trumpeting this for awhile. Since Up this is the bulk of Pixar's output:

Toy Story 3
Cars 2
Monsters 2
Finding Nemo 2
Cars 3
Incredibles 2

As for Disney, along with the three you mention I'd go back a couple years and also include Bolt & Princess & the Frog.

I think part of the problem is even after two decades the competition isn't there to push them. They're basically competing with another branch of the same company.

Incredibles 2 - FINALLY! I have liked Pixars sequels yet Incredibles is the only one I really thought needed one the most. Monsters, Cars, Finding Nemo I never really gave much thought of as they worked well as a stand alone and now they have gone sequel crazy.

Cars 2 was a bit overdone.

I disagree. I think Toy Story 2 is considerably a different storyline than the first one, and an improvement at that. Toy Story 3 is the only one guilty of rehashing points from the first two, but it's still very well done and is more of a caper movie than the first two were.

List me among those who liked Cars, even though it is a lesser entry from Pixar's best years. Cars 2 is easily the worst of the Pixar movies.

While I do think Pixar has lost a bit of its focus from the days when it was churning out the likes of The Incredibles, Wall-E, and Up, they remain the one and only studio whose films I will blind buy if I missed them in the theater (which I rarely do). I think Brave and Monsters University were underrated, and I'm looking forward to Finding Dory. But I'm also really hoping that the upcoming non-sequels will be a return to Pixar's glory days.

Toy Story: Buzz is a lost toy and the gang works together to save him.
Toy Story 2: Woody is a lost toy and the gang works together to save him.
Toy Story 3: they are all lost toys and have to work together to get home.

Its no slight on the films, I love all 3, but the sequels didn't bring much to the table story-wise.

Toy Story 2 had more depth than the initial movie, i.e. what it meant to be a collected toy that was preserved but never played with versus a toy that could be outgrown and discarded.

If your view of movies is so oversimplified then most movies are not needed at all. There is perspective that adds layers of emotion and understanding to completely different.

Toy Story 1 is view through a kids eyes whereas Toy Story 3 is the adult point of view. And if you don't mind me saying bringing the whole story full circle was just pure genius

I liked it too. The movie was very reminiscent of what happened in the desert east of Los Angeles. My family moved from the L.A. beach area out to Arizona in the late 60's. We would go back to visit family from time to time. I remember going on Route 66 through a little town called Amboy. Then, after some time, I noticed we didn't go through Amboy anymore but I was too young to really know why. Afterwards found out that I-40 had opened and made the drive quicker but it bypassed Amboy.

How's that? If you want to single out Lasseter, then that's fine. Otherwise, Pixar had absolutely nothing to do with Planes.

Pixar didn't produce or animate Planes, it was made by DisneyToon Studios, Disney's direct to video animation branch.

Planes is a direct result of Cars and set in the Cars world. If Pixar had the resources to bang it out Lassiter would have made it happen.

Yes there is clearly more to the films but the core stories are the same in all three films.

I probably like 2 more than the original simply for the Jessie storyline, but that doesn't change the core of the films. They have a single plot they recycled from Buzz to Woody to the whole gang. Then they toss in a left behind Jessie and Lotso from their owners in 2 and 3. Then you have Toy Story of Terror where *surprise* Jessie is taken by a collector and and the gang has to rescue her.

It's repetitive. It's not a bad thing because it's clearly a formula that works and clearly worthy of going back to the well. I just wish they'd attempt something different with the gang.

Saying that Pixar would have made it if they had the resources sounds like more then just an opinion and that you knew or heard it reported somewhere. I think hanging Planes on Pixar makes absolutely zero sense.
