Don't forget that none of them are actually related to Alien despite being sequels to prequels of sidequel reboots of requels. It was planned that way since Ridley was a kid.

Were that many people really upset that Prometheus didn't feature the xenomorphs? I thought the film was heavily promoted as being a separate story from those other films.
But then again, I don't expect Ridley Scott to say the problem of Prometheus was the writing and the story. And the boring creatures.

What's the word on the 3D version of Alien: Covenant?
Prometheus had some of the best 3D l've seen in a live-action movie (I rank it alongside Avatar and Hugo for best use of 3D by a filmmaker), but with 3D seeming to be more post-production now, is Alien: Covenant worth seeing in 3D? Or will it be better in 2D, given how dark the lighting in the movie appears to be?

I don't think I would dislike Prometheus so much if it wasn't set in the "Alien" universe.
The last fucking thing the Alien mythos needed was a bunch of "Ancient Aliens"-style woo-woo (having the space jockeys responsible for the creation of the human race) and the thing in brayzie's spoilered post.
The Aliens and Space Jockeys should remain mysterious. The more origins and explanations you tack on, the shittier they become.
Frankly, "Alien" is probably tne biggest clusterfuck of a franchise I've ever seen. Everything after Aliens has been a giant mis-step: The franchise-killing Alien3, the cloning nonsense from Resurrection, the awful AvP movies, and the ancient aliens nonsense in Prometheus.

Yeah, I just read the plot and am pretty disappointed. More black goo. Yes, that was exactly what we wanted, thanks, Ridley.

I'm trying to understand the Alien3 references in this thread. Do you guys mean Alien vs Predator?

I'm in London and saw it earlier today. Awful. The script is abysmal and the acting is terrible. Especially Billy Crudup. Ridley gave "Prometheus" a big fuck you with this. I truly hated this film.

I don't care. Still looking forward to it. I liked Prometheus a lot more than most of you guys.

It's still at 74% on RT, and since I also didn't hate Prometheus it seems like this will be enjoyable. I'm still planning to see it.

Yeah, I'm still looking forward to it. Prometheus was disappointing as a fan of the franchise, but the levels of hate it gets is over-the-top.

Hey, I loved "Prometheus". And while I agree that the writing could have been better, I thought it was original. I also loved the cast, cinematography, and felt it had a pretty cool idea for a backstory. "Covenant" is just a bad rehash of the original "Alien". You don't give a shit about a single character, there is zero suspense and the gore is boring. The character Daniels is also no Ripley. Which I read is what Scott was going for.

I got to say I am torn on this. I want to see it to encourage continuation of the franchise, but I don't want to encourage where this is going (quality-wise).
Honestly, the direction Scott is going is Prequel Trilogy levels of stupidity that soil a good thing. This needs a different creative vision. Scott has proven he has none.
His response to fan reaction seems to be to dumb it down even further rather than actually listen to the critiques.

I've intermittently been reading this thread (for fear of spoilers) and so many fears of failure with this film, but no real mentioning of The Martian, a critical and box office success, and Prometheus didn't exactly lose money. In fact it made almost 1/2 billion worldwide. This is a very capable director, still, who usually has a very unique vision and extremely adept in the sci-fi genre. I enjoyed Prometheus, loved The Martian and can't wait for this...
