The other day my Uncle was railing on about how bad he was and the crap that he stars in. In wasn't worth getting into a big discussion but I just said I like the guy. I always thought he was a good actor. I'm thinking the first dramatic role I saw him in that he did great in was Amistad or Contact. I eventually saw some of his earlier stuff but with hacks like Channing Tatum you're really going to complain about MM being nothing but a pretty boy?

Well even Channing Tatum can poke fun at himself, and I'm looking forward to 22 Jump Street. Magic Mike was good with the both of them.

I've been hearing this everywhere, but are people completely forgetting A Time to Kill, Contact, Dazed and Confused, hell even Tropic Thunder? Sure he did a ton of romantic comedies, but he's been in good things all along.
Yes over the last 2-3 years he's been doing better work, and a couple good movies per year, but it's not like it wasn't in him.

Abso-fucking-lutely. No other actor need show up next year at the Emmys. With the exception of maybe Kevin Spacey for "House of Cards". "True Detective" is also the best HBO show since "Six Feet Under" (IMO). I can see multiple nominations for it. And it has (quite possibly) the best cinematography for any television show I've ever seen. Specifically the shots from above. Back to Matthew McC's resume. "Mud" was absolutely raped this awards season. Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actors (M McC. and those two kids), Cinematography.

Even the other characters such as the father (Ray McKinnon) and Neckbone's brother (Michael Shannon) were great in it.
