All of that love for American Hustle is baffling. Love the love for The Wolf of Wall Street though. It trumps AH in every possible way as a film.

I thought they'd think outside the box and nominate Scarlett Johansson for her performance in Her but I knew that they would overlook it.

I do like that Her was nominated in five categories but it deserved to be in three more - supporting actress, actor and director.

Amy Adams now has 5 Oscar nominations and this is her first for Lead Actress.

It's great to see McConaughey, Ejiofor, and Fassbender pick up their first nominations.

I love the love for Gravity, baffled by the non-acting love for Hustle.

And she'll knocked out again by a "tour de force" role, something she rarely does. She plays normal roles extremely well. At least she won a Globe finally.

Weird seeing absolutely no love for the Coen Bros.

Well Avatar won in that same category, so it's not unprecedented. I'd imagine it's a ton of work too.

Gravity was okay. It's definitely a technical marvel. But outside of that, it felt very hollow to me with no substance at all. The movie definitely leaves you cold. Wolf of Wall Street is my favorite of what I've seen, but I don't think it'll have a shot at Picture since it wasn't nominated for Editing. I'm still hoping DiCaprio can finally win.

Good point, I'd completely forgotten that.

I had a blast with Gravity, it was like a big amusement park ride and I enjoyed the hell out of it (I have no regrets with paying the few dollars extra for IMAX 3D). And that is all Cuaron's doing. The script was nothing special, it had enough substance to me.

Wolf of Wall Street was great, infinitely more enjoyable than Hustle was. Though I'd argue that it had little additional substance over something like Gravity when you get right down to it.

A month ago, I would have picked Bruce Dern - now I think McConaughey is a shoo-in...he's peaking at the right time, and it doesn't hurt that TRUE DETECTIVE is on right now, reminding us weekly what a great actor he is. I think both he and Leto are going to win the acting categories. I'm guessing Adams and Lawrence for the other two, and 12 Years a Slave for Best Picture. I think WOLF, as good as it is, might wind up getting shut-out this year.

Of course, things can change between now and March 2.

I definitely would give DiCaprio the win for the LEMMON scenes alone!

That may have been the most excellently random thing I've ever seen in a big mainstream movie. But then, this also had candles in the ass.

Oh and Jonah Hill was excellent in this movie, I liked his character in some scenes, and wanted to knock him the fuck out in other ones. Just as intended.

This is about the only time of the year when I kind of wish I still went to see movies in the theater instead of waiting and watching them at home. I've only seen three films with nominations for anything: The Great Gatsby, Iron Man 3 and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

What a boring list. Looks like I can skip it again this year...

This is the only one that really interests me: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) not suprising but it is amazing to see where he started and is now.

Boring list but fairly accurate, outside of Hustle.

I mean c'mon, we now get to say "Oscar nominated movies Star Trek Into Darkness and The Lone Ranger."

Does the Academy alway nominated Merly Streep every year? She already won what three Oscar. Replaced her with Emma Thompson in Saving Mr. Banks, while I haven't seen the film words around the news that she was snubbed by the Academy.

Streep has been nominated 18 times. It's almost a guarantee that she's nominated every year.

Most notable omission for me was Blackfish in the Documentary category. I thought that movie was big shit.

Kind of surprised by that myself. On the other hand, Netflix got its first oscar nomination.

No Best Animated Feature nomination for Pixar. That's a first.

Glad, not surprised, to see another Adapted Screenplay nomination for Delpy, Hawke and Linklater. Still think it's weird that they're considered Adapted Screenplays because they're characters who were in another movie. If Celine and Jesse were actual historical people, I assume this would have been an original screenplay instead.

What the hell is The Grandmaster and how did it pick up a couple of mid-level nominations? Never even heard of it.

I only have two horses in this race: THE WIND RISES and THE GRANDMASTER.

I only saw two nominees: THE GRANDMASTER and THE GREAT GATSBY.

@ THE BUTLER getting shut out.

Rush was shut out too, wasn't it? Really good film with several GG nominations and spectacular cinematography.

I didn't particularly care for it despite liking Wong Kar-wai's other movies. But it has Scorsese as a presenter so it gets instant academy attention.

The Butler was a pretty awful movie, so I'm not so surprised at its snubbing (Lee Daniels is NOT a good director). Steve McQueen tackling the same subject would have been interesting.
